steering wheel locked key ignition not turn off

Hi! I have a 2010 Audi A4. When i get into my car, it immediately starts to beep and asks me to remove key before I have even put the key in. When i do put the key in, I have noticed that it is "loose". The message then changes and says Defective Ignition Lock. I'm assuming I have to change my ignition switch? Any idea how much that will cost? Thanks in advance!

The steering locks don't necessarily engage when the key is removed, I always turn the wheel before exiting to engage it. There are several positions that will allow the pin to lock in but if between these, it may seem that it isn't locked.

I have a 2012 Nissan Versa hatchback when I put the key into the ignition it wouldn't turn the ignition is stuck or locked up need fast solution that won't cost an arm & leg

Make sure the gear shift is fully in the parked position. This is known to prevent cars from engaging at start-up. Twist the steering wheel, push the gear fully into park, or neutral if manual, and make sure the emergency brake is engaged. If you find that it was not in the parked position all the way, it should start up. If the problem is that the key won't turn, try getting some graphite and following the manufacturer's directions.
I don't know a great deal about these new cars, but that's the way it was on older models, maybe those sorts of things don't change!

Why ignition won't turn

By far the most likely reason that one can't turn the key in the ignition is because the car was parked with the wheels turned. There is a security feature that locks the steering when the key is removed to prevent a thief from driving the car.
When the car is parked with the front wheels other than strait, the weight of the car will cause the wheels to try to straiten, If this engages the steering lock pressure is put on the ignition switch.
To start the car, look to see what direction the wheels are pointing. grasp the steering wheel and turn it TOWARD the direction the wheels are turning and now start the car.
Other causes may include wrong key, damaged ignition or other causes that may require a professional.

I have a 2010 Malibu which will not start or turn over. Several messages went across the panel, including ESC turned off. I noticed when I parked it the afternoon before that a nasty odor was coming off...

Won't start how ? A crank - no start condition or a no crank - no start ? When you the the key an nothing happens , the starter doesn't engage an spin the engine - no crank - no start . When you turn the key an the starter engages an spins the engine but does not start an run - crank - no start . Now what is your doing ?

I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata...my steering wheel will not lock after turning off the ignition...however..the ignition is not stuck and I am able to insert my key and start the ignition

I have noticed this problem on various different vehicles...after you turn the car off and pull the key out, physically force the wheel to the right or left really hard...the wheel will lock. It just happens to not be in the correct position for the locking mechanism to engage where you last left the steering wheel...to experiment with this, try turning it back on, and turning the wheel just slightly to one side or the next and repeat until you find the "spot" that it engages easily...hope that helped

Key won't turn

Has the steering lock engaged itself? If so try wiggling the steering wheel whilst turning the key. Works for me.

Car won't start, message says steering lock on

Try to turn the key to II-position. Then lock and unlock the doors with the remote. This will 'reprogramme' the key. Sometimes the immmobilizer chip will give the steering lock -code.

Hope this helps.
