Hello, names gary, recently bought 97 oldsmobile bravada and am having tranny problems. when started from cold tranny shifts great in all forward gears, and reverse works normal. when up to normal temp, still shifts fine in all forward gears but reverse feels like (if it was a clutch) you would be reving the engine and holding clutch half way, it barely moves. two weeks ago when bought, it had 5 codes, I forget but solenoid A electrical, sol B elec, TCC.... somthing. i found a blown fuse that said trans, changed it, cleared codes, and driving fine, drove for 2 weeks and havent come back on but just really noticed reverse problem (havent driven much). i took off pan to change fluid and filter, and notice two solenoids next to each other (A&B maybe?) that are held in by what looks like a U shaped push in pin, that are a little sloppy, i can wiggle them around, one more than the other, could this be my problem or is it normal to have play? havent put filter and fluid yet, try that first? maybe an additive? any info would be great, thanks so much for your time.

Gary, I'll put this in a clarification so some one else can answer it too, I just did the same thing on my GM tranny, thm4l30e? Anyway, My solenoids were tight, but that didn't change anything in the tranny except turn the dash light out, I had replaced 2 shift solenoids and changed the filter and fluid, 5 qts for the filter, over $200 in parts, didn't do a thing, the parts store was no help, they will sell you all the parts you want, they don't care. I am still looking for a donor car for the tranny, I found a tranny on ebay, but would rather buy the whole car. Anyway, just the filter and fluid will do wonders, sometimes, it is your call. The tranny shop wanted $1200 just to look at it. He said you know those imports, ??? I said you idiot, the truck was made in Indiana! has a GM tranny in it. Idiots. Good luck, Hope this helps.

no. Could be a bad shift solenoid. or a valve sticking in the valve body.

I have a 97 Bravada it takes awhile for it to shift into overdrive when its cold I just bought this vehicle will changing the fluid and filter help

Tricky question.
If the truck has more than 150,000 miles I would do nothing. Changing the fluid and filter could make the problem worse.
You can drain and fill the fluid and use any brand of oil as long as it is correct version for your model.
I don't think I would drain it twice.
There's a good chance the pump is getting weak or you have a mechanical problem that changing the fluid is not going to help.

Transmission wont shift out of first gear. Recently changed tranny.

checkyour transmission fluid, you may have a leak that depleted the fluid and wont allow the shifting to take place.

Transmission dosnt shift when truck warms up

FYI
I have a 1995 GMC 1500 with 5.7 truck that the ABS Light comes on and then the tranny starts jumping gears and speedo goes crazy- Changed ignition switch and that did not help.
You said that you had changed the speed sensor on the tranny and that did not help ?? If so that was my next step. Let me know if you find and answer and I will do likewise.

97 bravada

soulds like a couple thnigs going on, 1) sounds like a problem with you gear selection lingage may be damaged 2) you need to get you tranny serviced PROPERY, and make sure they check and tighten the tranny bands as needed, make sure they road test it after the fix
