SHUTS DOWN WHEN PASSING GEAR KICKS IN AND WILL NOT GO INTO REVERSE

  • TedR1 Sep 06, 2008

Same problem, check engine light is "ON" and the transmission will not shift out of second gear. Every one says that it is the Transmission Control Module (TCM). My question is: "Where is the TCM located within this Van"?

    Thank you.

You need to have the trouble codes read go to autozone they can read them for you and write them down and report back it is most likley a speed sensor on the transmission there is two of them and they are very cheap and easy to change called input /output speed sensors
1 05014469AA Wiring Repair Package, Input Speed Sensor
1 05014471AA Wiring Repair Package, Output Speed Sensor you dont need to use the wiring harness supllied with these sensors as they are for early model vans only please rate -jeff

Will only go in reverse

You have a failed automatic transmission, Remove the transmission and have it rebuilt.

I have a 2001 chrysler town and country and it wont change out of second gear. Just changed the transmission fluid and filter.

Souns like the vehicle is in "limp mode". Needs to be taken to an agent. there is probably something wrong with the gearbox management system or as in my case a faulty solinoid inside the gearbox. If you try to drive too much it will just keep shutting down to prevent further damage

Looking for a diagram of the power steering system for a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country . Missing a hose that comes out of a filter looking thing W/ 4 hoses, under the bottom center of the vehicle.

Go buy a 3/8 inch transmission hose (most stores sell it by the foot) and cut it to length then reclamp it. I just did this to my 2001 Town/Country tonight and it worked wonderfully! Hope this helps you!

1992 Chrysler Town and Country overdrive problem

Start testing speed and position sensors regardless of where they are. Electronic transmissions are sensitive to any of them.
