can be a multi reasons so well go thru them-- low coolant level---radiator--leak,clogged,blocked---radiator fan--not working--hoses--leaking,collapsed--water pump--worn,damaged,clogged,belt slip ---thermostat--stuck shut, stuck open,clogged---engine damaged-head gasket -leaking --head ,warped,cracked--cylinder wall damaged---oil --no pressure, pump damaged these are causes of overheating
most coolant stop leaks will not work with anti-freeze at all, only clear water only. please read the label on the product and follow it to the letter.most stop leaks will not work under extreme conditions, such as a bad water pump or missing water pump belt,or bad thermostat. with common leaks along the radiator SEAMS they may help some. please seek a mechanic soon, you can damage your engine without proper coolant in it. which can lead to an engine replacement. where the steam is coming from is where your coolant leak is. it may only be a bad or faulty hose. a simple pressure tester rented from auto-zone or avanced automotive will reveal your leak.please follow the instructions with the rental equipment, and you will find the leak in the coolant system quickly. thank you for choosing fixya.com
is the fuse and relay for the fan ok !! make sure the fans are ok, by jumping fan connector from positive on fan to positive on battery. negative on battery to negative on fan. if fan works it could be a bad coolant sensor, or a themostat thats stuck open, not allowing coolant to get hot and thats why the electric fans do not work. the coolant will not get hot enough if thermostat sticks open. it will by pass the thermostat and never get hot. have a good day !!
Well, I can't give you any specific information regarding your vehicle because you forgot to mention what kind of vehicle you have. (This is kinda important if you really want some help figuring out what is wrong with your car)
The "Generic OBD" of code P0128 is "Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature"
The most likely cause is a stuck-open thermostat, however, I have also seen defective Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensors also cause this code.
A code P0128 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
1-Low engine coolant level 2-Leaking or stuck open thermostat 3-Faulty cooling fan (running too much) 4-Faulty coolant temperature (ECT) sensor 5-Faulty intake air temperature (IAT) sensor
Check coolant levelCheck to make sure thermostat is functioning properly Check the Cooling fanCheck the ECT sensorCheck the IAT sensor If all else fails replace the thermostat
CODE P0128- THERMOSTAT MALFUNCTION. POSSIBLE CAUSES 1. ECT SENSOR IS OUT OF CALIBRATION. 2. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE THERMOSTAT IT MAY BE STUCK OPEN.3.INSPECT FOR LOW COOLANT LEVEL OR FOR AN INCORRECT COOLANT MIXTURE.
it would not affect leaking all its doing is constantly circulating, if the core is leaking its just sprung a leak replace it. open you cap when hot bet theres pressure.no dont really dangerous?VERY HOT.
I had this problem last year. My husband went to the local automotive store and bought their recommended thermostat. The problem with that is it wasn't exactly the correct one. My 2001 cavalier takes a thermostat that has a special seal. The one that my husband installed did not have the seal and was leaking around the thermostat. I went to the dealership with my problem and they installed one of the GM thermostats and I have had plenty of heat and no problems since.
