We have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Last night we drop about 85 miles and about the time we reached the destination the car started to vibrate and idle rough. Seemed very hesitant to accelerate. It would drive alright until we reached about 50 mph and it would start to shudder pretty roughly. My friend looked at it and said he thought it was the plugs.
I had an OBD 3 ran on it and it came up as misfire 4 and 5, so I intended to change the plugs. My brother in law said it could be electrical and to disconnect the pos terminal and try it again.
It reset the check engine light but it still seem to idle rough but I was able to get it up over 50 mph but still had a noticeable shudder.
I've read that running system cleaner may work or checking vac lines, but I really don't know where to start.

I had this problem for about 3 months but it was only after i did a service , i traced the problem down to a bad diesel filter it lost its seal over night .
Sounds like the nuetral safty switch is starting to go bad. the switch makes sure that the car is in park or neutral before it will alow the engine to crank over.
I have a 2002 JGC as well and its the driver side one with mine. I changed the bulb this last time and used bulb lube to cover all the metal. It worked for a mile then went out again but didnt burn out this time. I checked the contacts on the base and noticed there was some rust, scraped off with blade and used more bulb lube on those contacts too, working for now.
Check the battery. If it starts to fail it will start doing any conceivable thing including failing to start the car. Have the battery checked with a load tester. A simple voltmeter will not give an account of the requirements needed and the ability of the battery to meet those requirements.
Remove your negative cable for 5 min. from your battery to reset the comp. code. Put it back on. Drive it. If the light comes on, go to your local auto parts store, Autozone or someone big like that. They'll do a free scan on the comp. for the code and get you moving in the right direction for fix!
Had the same code on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Started having shifting problems as well. Code is for governor pressure sensor on trans. Cost me about $800 for dealer to fix. No problems after part changed out.
change all fluids in front and rear diff axles as well as transfer case if its 4x4 also belt change brake check and I have great luck using LUCAS fluids for increasing life of all engine and trans components, can be found at local parts store they work very well if you take care of this jeep it will last for a very long time
we got codes 300, 304 and 305.
