Can lifters be replaced

Oh yea, lifters can be replaced , best if you replace cam an lifters together ! Loud knocking is not usually associated with lifters , they usually make a ticking noise ! Knocking noise is most usually in the bottom of the motor , main or rod bearings . most of the time rod bearings !

2003 deville engine knocks at idle but when u drive knocking goes way down almost cant hear it

The knocking sound that you hear may be coming from lifters, crank bearings or piston slap. How old is the oil change, is there enough oil inside the engine, and is it due? How many miles are on this engine? All of these suggestions are normal with higher mileage vehicles. The only one that doesn't involve rebuilding the motor is the lifters. A lot of times replacing the hydraulic cams will fix lifter noise. I hope this is what you were looking for please write back. If you have any questions, let me know, good luck.

Having a "clicking" sound coming from engine, or dull "thumping"

could be anything from belt noise to lifter tick to rod knock..lifter tick is under the valve covers..rod knock sounds like hitting the block with a hammer..if its rod knock see what your oil pressure is.. should be around 30 to 45 psi cold..warm will be as low as 15..depending on oil type..most lifters can be adjusted by removing the cover and doing adjusting depending on the vehicle..good luck

Motor knock sounds like rocker arms or lifters?

If your engine is knocking the sound with be at the bottom of your oil pan but if you have lifter or rocker arm problems the sound will be at the top of your engine. One other thing you said your car has 315k it might be time to change your oil pump.

I bought a 2004 Satern vue one week ago. It has 107,000 miles. I have a noise on the right side of the engine in the mornings when the motor is cold. I sounds like the car has no oil or something.

It sounds to me like you are experiencing lifter knock. This is caused some times by low oil levels. Lifter knock can also be caused if you have a spring that is becoming worn out or if your lifter itself is coming out of adjustment. However on many of your newer vehicles you can not adjust the lifters. One other thing that can occasionally cause lifter knock is if your timing is off just by a little. I hope this helps answer your question. I do not believe you are in any real danger of having your engine blow up on you in the near future, but it would still be a good idea to try and figure out what is causing your noise. Hopefully I gave you an idea as where to start.

Sound like a lifter knocking took off vaule cover all were ok not too tight not too lose just had head gasket replaced never knocked before that any other ideas top of motor is apart heads are off too

Your problem could be a lifter that's either pumping up or leaking down which wouldn't be evident when you check the rocker arms for play with the engine off. You can use oil deflector clips and a mechanic's stethescope to run the engine with the valve cover removed and isolate the lifter in question. If you had a bad head gasket and had coolant leaking into the oil, it's also possible that you're mistaking the sound of a bad rod bearing for a lifter noise. Hopefully it is just a bad lifter.

1996 chevy s10 4.3 vortex lifters knocking at start up but goes away after 10 minutes idling. changed oil and filter oil pump reads 58-60psi at idle and seems to be working.

High milage? Try engine cleaner, run for couple hundred miles and then use an additive like Restore. If it's just dirt this may help. Make sure you are using the correct viscosity oil for winter temps. If it's from wear only parts replacement will fix it.

Knocking noise

If it is coming from the top of the motor, I would say it is a lifter tapping. If the sound is coming from the lower end of the motor I would say you have a rod knocking. If it is alifter you can replace just that lifter, if it is the rod I would consider a rebuild.

Engine knock noise on cold startup

these 3.3l engines are equipped with timing chains. if vehicle has prolonged down time, typically more than 4 hours, vehicle makes a chatter until the timing chain tensioners put tension on the chain. you will need them replaced.
