I'm not a mechanic but I've had this problem with a dodge truck and a Saturn. I bought a new gas cap and the problem stopped. It takes awhile after you install the new cap for the emmission control system to clear. Something about air gas mix. I don't know about the Trac problem.

The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communication with the BCM.
This year vehicle as with all newer vehicles have several control modules that control the engine , air bags , antilock brakes , anti-theft system ,Heating an air conditioning ,the instrument cluster an some others ! These modules are all connected on a class 2 serial data communication network so the modules can share information ! Your best bet is to take it to GM dealership or a ASE certified repair shop before you guess an just replace parts , that will cost you more in the long run !

service light on ... trac off is on .. the trac light has been coming on last 2 weeks..
I too have a 02 Alero and the TRAC OFF light has come on. I just had the water pump replaced along with the timing chain and then a sensor went out. I just got it back then drove it today and the TRAC OFF light has come on.
If it isn't one thing it's another!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
