It just doesn't produce heat. The idle does smooth out after awhile or if you rev up the engine for a minute or so. It doesn't seem to matter if the engine is hot or cold.It just doesn't produce heat. The idle does smooth out after awhile or if you rev up the engine for a minute or so. Yeah it reaches operating temp within 5 minutes. I had the radiator and thermostat replaced awhile back but the heat just will not come out. It will get a little warm but not very much.Yeah it reaches operating temp within 5 minutes. I had the radiator and thermostat replaced awhile back but the heat just will not come out. The heat control valve, this is the valve that allows hot engine coolant to flow into the heater core inside the dash , if its decective it will not open to let the coolant to flow.
The Thermostat if it is bad (stuck open) the car will not warm up and will also cause a no heat problem as well as many other issues.
Does the car warm up quickly and reach operating temp within about 5 min?
The only other item in the system is the heater core it cam be plugged the easiest wat I found to clear it is disconnect both of the heater hoses at the firewall, Use a air compressor and a blow gun to carefully blow air in one side of the heater core then the other side if you havent changed the antifreese in a while it gets gummy and if you had a leak and added chemical cealer that can plug a heater core.
Careful! the junk coming out of the opposite side of the heater core will shoot out quite violently be careful please The only other item in the system is the heater core it cam be plugged the easiest wat I found to clear it is disconnect both of the heater hoses at the firewall, Use a air compressor and a blow gun to carefully blow air in one side of the heater core then the other side if you havent changed the antifreese in a while it gets gummy and if you had a leak and added chemical cealer that can plug a heater core.

the doors for this vehicle are vacuum powered. you likely have a hose leaking allowing the door to creep open at low vacuum(idle) short term fix would be to run a hose directly to a vacuum souce to the actuatior on the top of the heater box.(get at it normally through the glove box)
i have 98 sport-has similar problem occassionally-not that often-may be moister in connections or computer-restart to be safe until lights register then check off
Check the temperature sensor...it tells the computer when it's cold, and changes fuel mixture accordingly. (same as a choke used to do) Just curious...If it only starts warm, how do you get it warm???
Bring the jeep to a parts store and have them read the engine code(s) stored in the computer. The engine light on indicates a problem, and this is the best way to figure out what's wrong. Most stores will check for codes for free (they plug a scan tool into the port under the dash to 'read' any stored codes). Write down the code #'s and ask them what they meah and how to fix the problem. If u have any further questions, u can post them here. Let me know how u make out.
