TAKE CAR TO A GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP HAVE THE ABS BRAKES AND TRACTION CONTROL CODE SCAN.YOUR ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WILL COME ON ADJUSTING BRAKE PRESSURE TO AVOID A SKID.THAT WHY LOW TRAC LIGHT COMES ON. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN YOU SEE LOW TRAC LIGHT DRIVING ON DRY ROADS PROBLEM IS IN THE ABS BRAKE UNIT OR BAD WHEEL SPEED SENSOR.

Abs and traction control dash lites come on and off at various time..sometimes never come on

Your abs and traction control lights should only come on when you start to slide while breaking(ABS), and when your wheels spin in place when excelerating(TC). If those 2 things don't happen, which with some people they never do, you should never see the lights come on. Only when those mechanisms are in use do the lights come on. And they will always flicker as that is what abs and tc are, intermitant surges to break up the constant. ABS does this for obvious reasons...anti lock break, so when you slide, the abs "taps" the breaks in short bursts so they don't lock up. TC "taps" the exclelrator when it slips. Those "taps" are what trigger the lights on your dash, which is why they flicker and don't stay on.

My traction control light and anti lock light popped on today and now the brake light popped on. i read the manual and it says to switch the traction control button back to on but i can't find it

I think your traction control button is on the center console behind the Shifter.
But, I don't think that is the problem. That switch will cause the traction control and light to turn on and off. It should not affect the brake light and anti-lock light.

I would first check your brake fluid level. Top it off with the correct fluid. The fluid is a DOT number; like DOT3 or DOT5. Use the correct DOT fluid.
If the fluid is very low, you may need your brake fluid system bled to remove any air. And you may want to check the brake pads. Low fluid may mean you need new pads.

If that doesn't work, go to an auto parts store that will scan your car for ODB2 error codes. AutoZone will do it for free. I suspect you may have a bad wheel bearing. That will cause the ABS and Trac lights to go on. I've replaced GM bearing/sensors on several of my cars. The last one was my 2005 Bonneville. The bearing and sensor are combined in one unit.

I have a 97 lumina an my trac light just came on and now my brakes are really hard to stop what could be wrong??

HAVE VECHICLE CODE SCAN SOUND LIKE FAULTY WHEEL SPEED SENSOR.WHEN YOU SEE LOW TRAC LIGHT YOU ABS BRAKE SYSTEM IS ADJUSTING BRAKE PRESSURE TO KEEP CAR FROM SKIDDING LIKE WHEN YOU ARE ON SLIPPERY WET ROADS OR ICE. IF YOU SEE LOW TRAC LIGHT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM IN ABS BRAKE AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM.

What does low trac sign mean?

if stopped at an intersection and then pull out a bit too fast & the tires start spinning, the "Low Trac" light will come on briefly, but will go back off once traction is gained again. This is totally normal. but if this stays on constantly even in dry road conditions, you need to get it looked at because it's not normal. (basically the light itself means your tires have little to no traction with the road and are spinning or slipping/sliding.)

You never specified whether it's on all the time, or you were just curious as to what the light meant. If it does stay on constantly, comment and I will help you work through the solutions!

I hope this helps!

Trac on does not help traction whatsoever totally helpless when snow or ice---not sure it has worked since new when press steering column button to turn trac off---will show trac off on dash----and when...

The traction light only shows when it is turned off. If the traction control wasn't work, the van would show a code aka engine light would come on. Tracation Control only works at speeds below 35 mph.

A bytton in my car an when i push it the letters trac on

the button is for a feature call low traction , when the low trac light is on ( on the dashboard ) the traction control system is off. when you press the button again the light should go off ( low trac. on) I leave mine on all the time. it works with the antilock brake system. if the computer detects that the wheels are starting to slip or slide , it cycles abs on and off quickly to help you remain in control of car, feature is more designed for driving on icey roads. Just leave low trac. on and dont worry about it ( no trac, light on dash) hope this helps S.R. Peace

What is trac off

Trac off simply means that your traction control system is turned off. This light generally comes on when your car is started for a while like many of the lights just to ensure everything is working. It does sound like you have some kind of problem developing but it's very unlikely that it has anything to do with the traction control system. Generally in mid-priced cars like the alero all traction control does is either stop power to the wheel slipping or apply gentle brake pressure to the tire that's slipping. Just get a diagnostic run would be my suggestion. You can turn the traction control off yourself if you want to understand it better, many car enthusiasts do so as it allows you to use sliding and traction loss to your advantage. Leaving traction control on does generally increase safety for your average driver, but makes it virtually impossible for an experienced driver to perform any of the stunts we often see in racing.
