What is making this 08 caliber 2.0L sxt cvt have a High pitched whining sound at idle and driving?

Possible bearing in one of the drive pulleys. I have changed numerous alternators for this noise. Take the belt off and start the car. If the noise goes away you know it will be pulley related and not transmission related. If noise goes away, spin all pulleys by hand to determine the defective/noisy one

finding noise is hard, and takes skills and can be dangerous.
my guess ????? it makes noise only moving.????
only clue is front, and presume outside of car and not under dash.

if car makes noise moving only, it can be dangerous , driving or even trouble shooting.
does it make noise in turns, or bumps,or loads (hills) or in all gears. or down hill, or coasting.?????
when it starts, does letting of throttle stop it, or more throttle>
or down shifting.? or cutting throttle and shifting to neutral.
I added many check to Doesn't seem connected to anything

my guess is the whine will progress to full time, many times this is true.

good FSM cover noise, here is more.

How do i fix the whining noise my 2009 kia sorento makes

may be your power steering pump whining. Check fluid first, then if it's up, start the car up and have someone turn the wheel back and forth a few times. Listen to see if there is more or less noise when this happens. Does the noise go away after it warms up?

My Honda CRV (1998) is making a high pitched whine sometimes when I'm driving. It seems to happen when the rpms are high before shifting (I own a standard transmittion CRV). It whines between 2.5 and 3...

Check your power steering fluid level. If too low the pump will whine like that. Put some in it if low. Don't buy power steering fluid, automatic transmission fluid is the same thing and is much cheaper.

2002 Chevy Malibu with a 3.1ltr enging and a 4 speed automatic trans. The trans has a whinning sound when driving. It's not slipping and shifts correctly. It just has a whinning sound. What could the...

The most common whining noise from that tranny is the transmission pump. Sometimes they have a high pitch whine noise yet nothing wrong its normal. Sometimes its an indication of the pump being over-worked due to a dirty filter or fluid low. Turn engine on and check tranny fluid level. If low add to cold mark on dipstick, check for leaks under vehicle. If fluid appears very black or burnt smell, recommend flushing fluid and replacing filter (located inside tranny pan) yours will be a 4L60E type tranny.

Manually shift thru all gears up & down the scale. Try adding Motorcraft Additive Friction Modifier, available from Ford parts dept. This REALLY STINKS!!! Don't get any on you. Pour into trans fluid. Drive a few miles shifting manually thruthe gears, then do a normal start stop drive several times. This will luburcate trans, normally used for differential but has worked in automatic transmissions of all makes for years. Otherwise mechanical problem for transmission repair facility.

Makes high pitched sound when starting. doesn't want to go into gear

Have you checked the transmission fluid? I believe the problem is within the transmission, because it wont go into gear. A whining noise, or high pitch noise, can be caused by low transmission fluid, which allows air to get in the transmission lines, or it could be a bad transmission pump. This is for a automatic transmission, since it is what I believe that you have in your car.
