I ran into a similar problem with a Cavalier, turns out that the on-board computer needs to have constant power. Even if the battery is very low or even dead, it still has to be connected. If the battery is removed it breaks the circuit and stops the command that lets the engine start. After the new battery was installed it would crank but not start, the dealership told me that I had to have it towed to them to have the comp reset, which would have cost around $150 total. Thankfully a mechanic friend of mine had a diagnostic machine and was able to reset it for me - cost me a case of beer. He then showed me a (not so simple) trick around this for the future. Once it is running again remember this. 1 Have the new battery and jumper cables ready, 2 Loosen the battery terminals on the dead battery but DON'T take them off. 3 Connect jumpers to the car battery cables and to the new battery, like you were jump starting from just the new battery. 4 Remove the terminal cables from the dead one in the car and remove dead battery (be careful not to let them come off the cables OR the good battery) it's OK if it disconnects briefly, but reconnect it A.S.A.P. 5 Put the new battery in and connect the terminals BEFORE removing jumper cables. Once they're on the terminals just take away the jumpers and tighten the nuts. That's how you change a battery without letting the car ever lose power. Hope that helps Jose. Good luck, safe driving. Weak connection between battery post and cable. Since the jumper cables bypass this, by clipping on the cable ends, the car will start with a jump. Takes less current to start a warm car than a cold one, hence it starts all day. I would look closely at the cable ends where they attach to the battery. Clean them until spotless with baking soda and water and terminal cleaner brush.

If this does not solve the problem, clean the chassis ground on the other end of the - battery cable and + cable where it connects to the starter.

Check your alternator output also. Battery should not be defective in 2 years.

Possible current drain when key is off. Put a voltmeter inline with the battery and check for draw. If you get more than a few millivolts something is on and drawing current. Glove box light maybe? Check by pulling fuses until you find the source of the draw.

Many possible causes....Too little info to make an intelligent suggestion. Try charging the problem vehicle's battery with jumper cables for 2 minutes with the supply vehicle running at fast idle (or about 1500-2000 RPM, if it is tachometer equipped) before you try to crank the problem vehicle on a cold morning. If it starts right up, you likely have a weak battery that needs replacing.

Check and follow both the battery cable (positive and negative). May have a bad ground or connection in either cable.
If they all check out then follow the positive to the main fuse and relay panel. Might have a burned wire or wires.

Loose battery cable at the starter end, or sensor trouble, tighten cables, see if this helps, usually does, I get 50.00 per hour to check this, I render this 4 free 2 u.

most likely the drive shell broke in the trans depending where you live should not cost more than a grand to repair parts and labor, please let me know

It is possible that you blew the ecm fuse or damaged the ecm. When giving a jump start it is imperative that you ground the negative side of jumper cables to the engine block of the dead car and not to the battery as there will be a voltage spike that can cause serious damage as you have experienced.

If you banged on the starter motor and it started then you have a stickie bendix drive and solinoid sticking
But if you have to also jump start it as well then do this.....When it wont start before doing anything else turn on the lights and hit the starter and if the lights go dim or go out the battery is no good or you have a short in the eletc ...so take battery lead off for 2 days and if starts you have a SHORTin the eletrics

Try cleaning the battery terminals

your fuel injection system isn't holding residual pressure.  The valve in the fuel pump that holds the pressure is defective.
