I have a 95 camaro auto trans v8. The tranny slips in all gears with no noise at around 40 mph. I can turn it off and re-start it and it will drive fine for 1 to 2 miles before it starts over

have you told any of the tranny places of problem when they were replacing or working on vehicle ---has the tcm been tested ---and scan for any trouble codes
Sounds like the clutch, if a standard trans, needs to the be replaced. If it's an automatic, you need to take it in for diagnosis. Your trans. might be going bad, slipping, may just be low on fluid, if it is use some Lucas trans nonslpi and the proper tranny fluid to fill it to the proper level. Add the fluids and test drive bfore going to the shop, unless the tranny is fuul allready.
The forward gears slip but dose the reversr gear slip as well if not your problem is either the forward band is worn out ,,,,or the forward pump is playing up and also it could be the thing that starts it all off is the filter in the auto sump is clogged up with metal or drive band dust is the colour of the auto oil dark or dirty..
When was the trans oil last changed.
The fluild is suspect as is the compiter controls. Is the check engine lite on ? A bad TPS or air flow meter even if still working can command out of lock up. The fluild is at the right level and is halfway clean? The trans overheating now or in the past can have runied the lockup solinoid or the lock up clutch in the converter. Tranny shops like to rebuild the whole tranny every car as they know thats going to get it and they make more money and have less headaces with broken cars and mad customers. I f the control system cks OK Have your best guess local trusted tranny shop test drive the car and then listen to him say what hes going to do to fix it what hes going to charge and what'll happen if you don't fix it and drive around it. He may say he'll change just the touque converter and cross your fingers that it doesnt **** out too soon
There are to many things that can cause this problem, best thing to is go get the ECM scanned for DTC codes at a transmission shop or Auto zone or Parts Source since they scan for free.
The ECM should have DTC code in it's memory on how the transmission is Performing and have the Transmission line tested for Fluid pressure.
Good luck and hope this helps. Oh and also ways check with more then on transmission shop if there tell you that you need a new Transmission,
It could be a simple as the transmission filter falling off causing the lost of transmission fluid pressure. Check the transmission fluid too.
Dodge has a safety feature on there trannys. Its called limp home mode. If the computer detects a problem with the transmission, it will eather put it in 1st or 2nd and not change just to let you get out of the road or home if your near. But when you restart the car i will reset till it detects the problem again. But for as what the problem is it will be hard to say. With computer trannys you can have it hooked up and scanned for error code.
