Is trannny fluid up to specs? Definitely a transmission issue that you will either have to live with or refer to an expert. Maybe there is some adjustment for the shift - did you check out Google?
Assuming none of the wires are crossed, AND you replaced the cap rotor wires with quality replacements (meaning AC Delco) then you may have a bad coil. Remove coil from dist cap if HEI and look for any signs of arcing such as blackened areas.
IN your distributer under the rotor is a magnet and a pickup coil (the magnet is known as a pole piece) check your pickup coil for corrsion (green in color) and the module and also check pole piece for cracks in the magnet where the rivets hold it together. sometimes oil wicks up around the distributer shaft because of housing wear or the pieces just wear out over time.
Start with a set of plug wires, since it seems to happen in the wet weather, and pick up a can of wd40 or wiredry to keep in the truck.Hope this helps.
Good luck.
Did you replace the fuel pump with a NEW fuel pump, or a used one? Get in the car, insert key and turn to "On". Do not attempt to start. Do you hear the fuel pump run for a few moments? Try it a few times, starting the car each time after you hear the fuel pump run. If the fuel pump does not run, then chances are, it's a bad fuel pump. It could also be the fuel pressure regulator, located on the fuel rail.
I had an issue much like this with my Montero. By accident I found that four of the six fuel injectors failed, leaking heavily. In my case I could get the truck started after it sat several days (drying the cylinders out) after which it would run though poorly. I have since replaced the injectors and she runs/starts fine.
I hope this may assit you,
Tom
I believe you have a throtle body correct? IF so you have poor fuel pressure, plugged filter of injector. If by some miracle you have a carberated engine the the fuel is leaking from the bowl. Get a carb rebuild kit.
