to remove contaminated fuel , pull a fuel line of the fuel manifold and run the pump for a few seconds
not firing is sensor , immobilizer , ignition module problem but you stat that it fires on starter fluid so that cannot be right
starter fluid is a d good way of damaging the engine
a better way is to find and fix the fault
now to try and sort out what you are saying
it is cranking so the starter is good
it tries to run on starter fluid so there is spark to the plugs
it will not run and that indicates a lack of fuel to the injectors
a lack of fuel indicates
1--- a bad fuel pump
2--a vacuum in ht e fuel system from the tank not venting properly(EVAP system)
3--- fuel pressure regulator not working and providing pressure to the injectors
4--- bad injectors --- need cleaning
dump the starter fluid , buy a workshop manual and fix the problem properly
I had this exact problem. I had a leak where the fuel line connects to the engine. A plastic interface part was broken and not sealing. I replaced the fuel lines (from tank to engine). The assembly comes only with both send and return lines and connectors. Later, I found out that a kit to replace only the interface part exists. You cut the send line and slip the replacement part over the line and connect it up. My repair was over $450.00. The repair kit costs about $25.00. I've not seen one. Fix this at once. The car is dangerous to drive.
The fuel line that run under your car are metal and sometimes the normal vibration from the car will cause the fuel line to rub against other metal parts and wear a hole in the line you need to have the line replaced but make sure that the mechanic repositions the line so it doesn't happen again. have a good day.
It sounds like you have a bad fuel pump, a bad fuse to the fuel system, or the cut-off switch was tripped to the fuel pump. Check you owner's manual to check the cut-off switch reset. If this doesn't fix the problem and you have replaced the fuse to the fuel system then you will most likely have to replace the fuel pump. Start with the easiest solution first before replacing the fuel pump.
any lines that are defective must be made from scratch from straight tubing and plastic lines must be fabricated from a kit, both take special tools and skill so a dealer is the best bet here.
CHECK FUEL PRESSURE IT SHOULD BE 41 TO 47 PSI. IF NOT REPLACE FUEL FILTER..IF DONT HELP FUEL PUMP BAD.IF FUEL PRESSURE GOOD.CHECK VACUUM LINE TO FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR SHOULD BE GETTING VACUUM IF NOT FIX BROKEN VACUUM LINE TO PRESSURE REGULATOR.IF FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR GETTING VACUUM THEN THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR IT SELF IS BAD.
I would trace fuel lines from tank to fuel rail on motor. These are high pressure lines so do not try to quick-fix them. You will have to measure the lines and replace them if they are leaking. Unless the fuel is leaking from lines by fuel rail or by fuel filter.
Dont believe so as you have been driving it for a year and its only recently leaked so no link there.More likely the mechanic who fixed your car got it going again.Loose terminal, bad earth or some thing small enough to fix as a service/good will without charging you for it.
