I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee,quadre drive full time 4X4. when i make hard left or right turns on pavement it makes wierd sounding noises. it sounds kinda like the tires, but im not sure. is this normal?

or full time.
we cant guess what options you paid for new.
if part time,
stop driving in 4wd on dry pavement,only on ice or dirt.
if full time. then say so.
full time 4wd, or are you in lock mode. do not do that on dry pavement.

do not drive part time 4wd on pavement free of ice
it NOT AWD .

some AWD have a center diff, lock , is that on? (never on pavemnt)

and is PART TIME 4WD and is not AWD
if you drive on pavement that is not covered in ice or snow
that is wrong, the manual explains that.
part time 4wd only works on ice or dirt.
more simply,. 1 tire must slip, that is be on something like ICE or dirt .
Part time 4wd has no center differentail
and if you drive on pavement (dry) it will windup the drive line
and something breaks.
so REpost what you are driving on , the world is complex

the base version is not for Dry pavement, and if you make that
mistake, the gears will be very hard to impossible to UN SHIFT
due to driveline gross wind up, just like any jeep, 4wd.

Could be low on oil, or need a shot of additive if it is a limited slip differential.
The noise may be the clutches in the diff or one of the axle bearings.

This is normal for a 4X4 to do, 4WD on a Jeep with out a "full time mode" is only meant for wet and slippery conditions. Leaving it in 4WD on dry pavement can damage the drive line

Sounds like it is in 4 wheel drive mode.
If you have a switch to disconnect the 4 wheel drive it may not be working.
If the vehicle is full time 4 wheel drive or computer controlled 4 wheel drive you have most likely a locked in full 4 wheel drive mode situation.
Not good on dry pavement.

The part time switch in the gearbox is sticking in the on position locking the 4x4 on. It feels and looks really bad because the front wheels are trying to pull the car left or right, while the rear axle is pushing you forward. This is at it's worst when in full lock on road or hard surfaces. This is why 4x4 is for off road only.

like it says full time is all the time part time disengages the one differential for slightly better fuel milage at the expense of less off road capability

Do you have a Grand Cherokee with full time all wheel drive? If so the viscous coupler in the transfer case could be at fault. They fail 100% of the time in those jeeps at around 100,000 miles + or -. In tight turns after the t-case warms up the Jeep will make an awful howling noise and the tires will usually chirp on pavement. The only fix is an updated viscous coupler or a new t-case.
