Every week or two I go out to start the car in the morning and the battery is completely dead. I notice after I boost the car the drl light comes on whenever i start it. It's driving me nuts just when I think everything is ok it happens again. I brought it to a garage and they could find nothing wrong with it.
This was quite a while ago if I remember correctly it was a bad relay. I'm not a mechanic, keep in mind. I think what was happening was if I didn't turn everything off ( A/C for instance) before I shut down the car it was still drawing a tiny amount of power and if left sitting long enough would kill the battery. Make sure you turn everything off before you shut off the car and see if that seems to work, it may be the same problem. This was quite a while ago if I remember correctly it was a bad relay. Thanks for getting back to me. Since the first time the battery died 2 weeks ago, I have been making a point to make sure everything is turned off. It just seems if the car is left not started for longer than 24 hours the battery is drained. A few guy friends of mine who know a bit about cars seem to think it's the battery, so I am going to get a new one and see if that is the issue. Thanks again! Most likely a bad alternator..batt isnt gittn chargd. The diode is bad causing the alt to suck juice from batt. Also the main wire from battery to back of alternator I wud test first for wear. A bad one impedes chargn
The alarm light will not kill the battery. Your diode in the alternator may be bad. This will slowly drain the battery. Replace the alternator. Or charge it up and go to auto parts store and have them test the battery and alternator and starter.
Try charging it with a trickle charger. It might come back. The alternator circuit is tricky and requires some battery power to excite the electromagnets in the alternator to start producing power. It may or may not have been triggered by the boosting battery.
Put a test light on the negative battery cable with it unhooked from the battery touch the test light tester side to the negative terminal on the battery .. the test light will illuminate now start pulling fuses .. the test light will dim as u remove the drain ... check and see witch fuse dims the light the most .. check that circuit... its running your battery down
I would first clean the battery post and clamps, as a bad connection can cause a vehicle to act like the battery is dead, you can either buy battery terminal cleaner( it comes in a spray can) or you can use coke and a wire brush. Hope this helped Tim
a desconected relay will not drain the battery, you might have some other issue. start the car using boost and then check if your alternator is charging around 14 volts
There is a switch above the break peddle that is adjustable for the break lights. This is running your battery down that is why the gauges are jumping. Change the battery.. If it is 5 years old draining it dead will kill the cells. Hope this helps.
Your alternator is draining your battery to the point that you will still have your lites but will not have enough to start your car. I would take the alternator off and take it to your nearest automotive center to get it tested. They usually will test it for free. Hope this helps you get back running.
i have seen on more than one occasion the new ALT going bad after about a week or so you may want to check your charging system again and see if you can warr out the alt if it is bad
