It appears to be that the radio clock display has malfunctioned, and is due for a replacement radio, which could be an aftermarket or oem radio, maybe found at a junk yard.
Tools required for oem replacement radio, torx keys set.
Before working on the radio or other electronics, disconnect the battery cables with 8mm wrench.
Replacing the oem radio is much easier, if you obtain oem radio, compared to aftermarket radio, due to being direct fit.
The radio is same for 1995 to 1999 Pontiac Sunfire and the Chevy Cavalier, regardless of sub models, such as SE,GT, VL,VLX,Z24. etc.
Parts needed for the the aftermarket radio install :Stereo assembly, stereo wiring harness adapter, radio antenna adapter, and dash install kit.wiring diagram for the wire colors / functions, along with tools, such as torx key set, screwdrivers, wire crimper, wire stripper, double ended wiring connectors, hair dryer.
The oem stereo removal video is for the 2000 to 2005 Sunfire / Cavalier, but are the same or very similar procedures.
The original radio is a BOSE system and it has a buit in amp. So if you replaced the deck you need to replace the speakers all so. Don't cut the wires to hook-up the deck buy an addapter KIT. It's not just the stereo that runs though that harness the factory alarm does all so and that will cause you problems. Anyway back to the stereo you need to add an amplifier and problem sovled.
Hi, pull the trim plate off the dash around the radio. The trim may go all around the instrument panel. With the trim plate off, you can see the factory radio screws. Take the screws out, pull the radio out and remove the connectors, including the antenna wire.
You will need an adapter to fit the aftermarket radio snugly into the dash. They sell these wherever they sell aftermarket radios. I recommend you also buy the cable adapter. If you don't, at least buy the antenna adapter of you will no be able to plug your antenna into the new CD player.
Follow the instructions on putting the adapter together--it's made for a lot of different cars. You need it to screw into your dash where the screws came out.
If you buy the wire adapter, follow the directions that come with it. I recommend you solder the wires, but you can use those crimp connectors if you don't have soldering equipment.
If you don't buy the adapter cable, use the factory wire colors below to match up the aftermarket wires to your factory wires. Wrap any solder connections with electrical tape and carefully plug everything back in, including the antenna adapter and antenna cable. With the adapter plate attached to the new player, carefully push the wiring aside to get the player into the slot and then screw it in. check the system for proper operation and then replace the trim panel.
Enjoy your CDs, and let me know if you have any questions.

following is the procedure. u can also check ehow for more details.
Twist the negative cable off the terminal on the vehicle battery, using an adjustable wrench.
Remove the factory issue stereo. Pry off the radio trim bezel
with a flat head screwdriver. Remove the four bolts on each corner of
the radio. Pull the radio out the dashboard. Unplug the thick black
radio antenna cable. Disconnect the wire harnesses from the rear of the
stereo. Place the old stereo to one side.
Prepare the dashboard for the new stereo. Fit the radio
installation sleeve provided with the aftermarket stereo to the radio
installation kit. Feed the sleeve through the portal of the radio
installation kit and bend the tabs on the sides of the sleeve to secure
it in place. Feed the audio wiring of the Jeep and the radio antenna
cable through the portal of the assembly and slide the assembly into the
dashboard. Secure it in place with the bolts removed earlier.
Wire the new stereo. Connect the wiring of the stereo to the
audio wiring of the Patriot, using a custom wire harness adapter. Push
the connections together until they snap into place and test the
connection by tugging gently on either end.
Plug the radio antenna cable into the alloted port on the rear of the aftermarket head unit.
Slide the connected aftermarket stereo into the prepared
housing in the Patriot's dashboard. Click it into place in the radio
installation sleeve, taking care not to trap any wiring.
Most aftermarket pioneer cd/radio decks have the electrical connector for the antenna that I've seen.
Is this a cd only deck, or does it have radio functions?
Did you use a new harness wiring adapter to get the pioneer radio to work with the old harness?
There should be a color coded set of wires for the power antenna on that. And, then the Pioneer radio should have wires that were labeled for the power antenna.
your best bet is to buy a adapter harness (not expense) it plugs right into factory radio plug and then to aftermarket radio, all you need is the make and model of radio going in and year make and model of car and go to a car radio store.ALOT EASY THIS WAY, ALSO THE PLUG COMES W/DIAGRAM &LABELED WIRES.good luck hope this helps.
i have a 1990 iroc-z and i replaced the radio with an aftermarket radio. when i replaced the factory radio i had to do a little manuvering of the wires because of the alarm i had installed. the antenna wire is supposed to be ran under the PASSENGER side i dont understand why they are under the driver side.
Carefully remove the plastic around the radio with a flathead screwdriver and find the screws that are holding the radio into the dash...there should be two or four screws...after you remove the screws, pull the radio out and unplug the antenna and electrical plugs...if you are installing an aftermarket radio you may need a special adapter so you won't have to cut your original wire...look on ebay for that part
Obviously if fuse panel has a power antennae fuse, simply pull it, otherwise you may have to get to connector at motor by removing part or all of sheild in wheel well to access it in some cases. Only other option would be to remove radio from dash & disconnect antennae power wire from radio. Don't forget you want it up before disconnecting if you can.
