I have a 91 Dodge Plymouth Acclaim and I got my starter and alternator tested. The alternator tested good, but still not charging my battery. What could it be?

do a continuity test from the large red wire on your alt to the battery, could be a fusible link or broken wire, sometimes a wire will break within the sheathing so it won't be visible by eye, check all conections for corrosion and either clean or repair

SOURCE: Battery dosn't charge, alternator/voltage adapter test's good.

Did you test the Alternator on or off the truck? It might be a problem with the control system to the Alternator. The regulator need a battery feed to work, It is usually ran through an alternator fuse.

Try replacing the hot cable from the battery to the starter, replace the clamp, cable and all. Sometimes they corrode down inside.

SOURCE: I have a 91 dodge ramcharger,it doesnt charge the

One should never disconnect either terminal of the battery when the motor is running- this is likely to cause serious damage to alternator/regulator and any other electronics on the vehicle.
The alternator cannot provide a stable charge current without connection to the battery, - the alterator voltage output can spike in excess of a few hundred volts!

Unlikely to be the fusible link, as I assume you have power to the rest of the vehicle -such as lights etc.

Check dash indicator 'BAT' or 'CHG' lamp lights when Ignition on prior to starting motor,
Battery terminal voltage should be 14.0 - 14.5V with engine running and headlights on.
Ensure battery terminals are clean and firmly attached - ensure chassis ground is properly connected and alternator is properly earthed.

I have a 1993 plymouth acclaim it wont charge and the alternator and battery is good what can be wrong

check voltage regulator, Check for loose alternator belt, defective alternator, and/or charging resistance too high. High resistance could be caused by loose alternator or engine ground wire, and/or corroded battery terminals.

Replaced alternator on a 90 plymouth acclaim and battery is good but alternator is not charging what could this be.

You lost the ground to field the alternator It could e grounded threw the ECM. if so, cut the ground to the alternator and ground it to the engine. Older models, you can do this because the ECM only grounds it, does not regulate it. If Jason's diagram matches yours, Cut the DG/dark green wire and ground it.

I have a 91 Plymouth acclaim I put new battery and new alternator and it still won't hold charge I took to advance they hooked machine to it and said its not reading rpm so what wire helps read rpm so I...

I don't think there is an actual tach wire and I wonder how Advance decided that was the problem.
If the alternator is not charging the battery, it could be the engine computer. The computer acts as the voltage regulator for the alternator.
If that is the problem, you could try a used computer, or have someone wire in an external regulator from an older model Chrysler product.

1990 plymouth acclaim wont turn over. battery is good, starter tested good, turn crankshaft by hand and thats good.when you turn the key,all you hear is one click.when i take another battery and a set of...

The first thing to do is get a "load test" on the battery to make sure it is good. A battery can look good on a voltage test but not be able to perform. A fully charged battery should read 14.2 V or so. If it drops to around 11.5V on the load test it should be replaced especially if it doesn't bounce back to 14V.
When you hook the second battery into the system, if your key is on then your starter is using 24V to try to start. The starter and solenoid are bad. If your key is off then the most likely culprit would be the power cable from the battery to the starter and probably the solenoid.Replace the cable and make sure that you clean all the wire connections to bare shiny metal. Poor contact can also create problems If you still have trouble change the starter and solenoid both because you usually have to take the starter off a few months later to change it too, if you just do the solenoid. Hope this helps.

I have changed both the alternater and starter

This procedure usually works:
·Check the battery cable connections:
Make sure the negative cable makes a good ground connection at the battery and (preferably) at the engine. Make sure the positive cable, makes a good connection at the battery and at the starter.

·Check the battery the simple way, like this:
Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.

·Check the starter and solenoid:
If the wiring looks ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection, and proper voltage at the starter(10 volts minimum while cranking).
If the starter spins and no crank, the problem is most likely the Solenoid's pinion gear is stuck.
Have someone hit (not too hard) the starter while you try to start the car. This usually works by dislodging a stuck pinion gear.
·Make a simple test of the alternator:
If you can, somehow get the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery. It should be at least 13.6 volts to properly charge the battery.

1990 Plymouth Acclaim won't start.

Check your battery terminal connections first. The starter draws much more current than your accessory panel and a loose connection at the battery is a good place to start. Corrosion at the terminals can be a problem also. Post your results from this test and we'l go from there.
