You did'nt say if you have had the car (Scanned) to see if the engine control Module has stored any fault codes. You say it runs 20 miles or so before it quits. After cooling does it alawys start back up? What have you been doing to get it running again? The ECM can warm up and quit. It'll get an Troblem code about though. The no spark at the time sort of removes the Cat converter overheating and the ingtion Module ( (the coils are mounted to it). Something getting too hot is likly. Crank sensers and cam sensers both wil do this the crank senser is on the back of the block just above the oil pan. The cam sewnser is underneath the power steering pump and the connector going to it is on top of the front valve cover on the passenger side. Crank sensers will not code and still be bad. Computers if they come back on ever they will code most any problem and the code name is Quad driver failure.
Most all sensers are good when you buy then new, Used modules and cheap sensers ( mainly crank seners) can give troble. Cam sensers will not stop a running motor you can test your system by unplugging it with the car running. You'll get the code but it'll keep running just it might not restart ( some will) Clogged exhaust as it also sounds like it might not be running very strong when it is running and a skipped timing chain is'nt out of the question either. Mark the damper with top dead center ( It's not marked) and then turn the engine forward ( the direction that it turns) with the valve cover removed and the intake valve should tighten the pushrod right before top dead center 12-8 degrees ( about) but if it's after top dead center it's jumped and it's your problem. 140 thousand or much more and they will get loose, and sometimes jump. Converters clogged are much more common.
