I have a 2001 Alero and it makes a loud humming/roaring sound, coming from the front, it gets louder as you get going down the road. Seems everyone say to replace the hub and bearing assembly, did that still same noise. Any idea? Not tranny, coast and noise stays, replaced rotors, pads, and rotated tires
That's indicative of a wheel bearing, which is why you were told to change that out. However, it's also possible that the carrier bearings in the differential (where the drive axles attach) have gone bad. That happened to me on my 300ZX several years ago, and I had to replace the diff bearings. I would have them checked out somewhere other than a dealer (you'll probably get a better price from an independent shop).
As a sidenote, to be sure it wasn't a wheel bearing, if you hear it quiet down in a turn one way but get louder in a turn the opposite way, it's likely the wheel bearing. If you turn left at speed and it gets louder, then it's the right bearing (since you're loading up that side of the car). If it gets quieter in a right turn, it's the right side (you're unloading that side of the car and not putting as much weight on it, so it doesn't drag as badly). See if you get that symptom just to be sure that the wrong side front wheel bearing wasn't changed.
No problem, and actually it could well have been both sides - if one is worn out, chances aren't bad that the other will too - it's got the same stresses on it and bears more or less the same weight.
If you start hearing those noises again, a quick and easy test is to first determine which end of the car it's coming from, and then jack that end off the ground. Get both wheels up, and grab the tires at the top and bottom, and shake them as hard as you can. If the bearing is worn beyond a certain point, you'll feel some play in them - they won't be perfectly tight against the suspension. Not finding any play in them doesn't necessarily mean they're good - they may just not be worn out enough to have the looseness, but if you do feel them to be somewhat loose, they're definitely bad.
I did this with my Chevy Venture Van. The right rear bearing was bad (had play in it.) Replaced it but the roaring is now coming from front. Loud when driving straight or turning left, quiet when turning right. Also, strange. Immediately after I changed the right rear hub assembly, the van began excessive bouncing (but diagonally) when going over small holes or bumps. Any ideas?

I wish I would have known the last part there, about which direction and the noise. I replaced the driver side and it was actually the passenger side. (or i guess could have been both, doubt it) Thanks for your help!
Hey j_del I did notice that play on the passenger side. After replacing the assembly on that side there still seemed to be the same amount of play but the noise is gone. That mean that the lower CV arm is going bad?

I just had the blower motor replaced and don't know why it is humming so loudly. Did I just get a bad motor or is this supposed to be normal? I don't remember my old one making this much noise.
it sounds like its coming from the tranny or the transfer case. Gets louder with acceleration and is quiet when at an idol facing up hill
its like it trying to engauge into 4wd
when i start to come to a stop or turn the wheel there is a virbration, and a roaring noise....I have new tires, new brakes, new rotor's, and new wheel bearing's on it, so what could still be causing this to happen
