2008 Ford Escape Logo

I have a 2008 Ford Escape, 3.0L V6. I just had a Super 40 flowmaster professionally installed today. I never tried revving my engine in neutral before, but I tried today so I could hear what the new muffler sounded like. I was unable to rev past 4000 rpms, as it began to sputter. However, when driving, I have no problems going past even 6k or 7k rpms. Is this normal, and if not, what could be the problem?

Hello there,

This is a normal operation, all your doing is hitting the rev limiter. It's there to protect the engine from over revving. The Powertrain Control Module or PCM cuts fuel to the engine intermittently to keep the engine from revving past a predetermined RPM when in "neutral", and in "park" if it's an automatic. Just in case something like a foreign object or a small child or animal were to inadvertently depress the accelerator pedal and rev the engine too high and damage the engine in result. I hope this info helps, and just for peace of mind, I am a Master Certified Ford Technician. Enjoy your new exhaust!! I'm sure it sounds great!!

My ford escape 2008 hybrid suddenly runs at higher rpms and idles at 1500 rpms. yesterday it worked fine and idled at 1100 rpms

You need the engine computer scanned for faults first, if nothing shows up you likely have a problem with the transmission, likely it is not shifting into overdrive.

My 2001 ford escape suv doesn't go more than 40 miles p.h. when i mean to go faster

Is the engine revving high at 40mph? If so then chances are the trans has not shifted. Is engine very sluggish, or won't rev high, possibly with a hissing sound? If so then you may have a restricted exhaust system.

2008 ford escape sometimes at idle and after the engine is revved up there is a popping gurgling noise going thru the air inlet system. past the air filter and in before the engine. there is an inlet...

I have no experience with this but the thought that comes to mind is a pocket of air in the engine being transferred through the heater hoses. LONG SHOT a wild guess.
I think if it were with the engine air it would reduce the performance of the car.
I found this link with many complaints about noise and the odd thing some sound like yours, solved a couple by rotating the front tires. Odd but I have put the link on here.
