Dec 9, 2009 - Rear Brake Light Dash Warning Won't Turn Off SC- 1st Gen (1992-2000) ... Do you have the correct tail lights for your model year? Do you a ...
I just had the same problem, I would imagine that the Lamp Failure Sensor is faulty. I replaced the brake light switch under the dash and had no luck, then tested the lamp failure sensor and found out it was bad, bought a new one from the dealer ( dealer only item; just over $300.00) and it worked.
This warning light should indicate that there is a rear light failure. Running lights, brake lights, signal lights, reverse lights. You should check all the bulbs to see if any are burnt out.
Hey, my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee did the same thing and it took me a long time to find a solution. It turned out, at least in my case, that there was a burnt out bulb just above the license plate. When I replaced it the warning went away.
The fuse block is hidden behind the small fold out coin holder on the driver's side of the dash. If you fold it out, grip it with your thumb on the inside and pull up it will unclip from the dash. Should be a 10 amp (red) mini fuse. The label is on the backside of the coin holder you just pulled out.
After removing the top and side bolts (which are obvious) Go to the fender liner. Remove all but the top screw . You will find (by flashlight or shop light) two bolts coming out of the headlight rear. With a socket wrench and 10mm socket, remove the two nuts on the headlight and pull out the headlight from the front after insuring the bulbs are removed and identified for reinstall. Take your time. It is not difficult.
