You need to explain a little better... do you mean it will only crank properly when the choke is open and the throttle is closed ??? Has the battery been properly charged and tested ??? ( be honest here because we can't help if you don't ) are the battery cable connections is good shape ??? Have you tried spraying some carb cleaner into carbs when cranking ??? I have the same engine on my Triumph

Engine oil turns black just a few miles after changing
Is ok for an oil to change his colour after changing, but depends in how many miles.
There are a couple of causes for that.
Keep in mind that you can't drain totally the old oil from an engine and that way your new oil will receive some black colour from the old one.
Also, the oil is going to the cylinders where are extreme temperatures and residues.
Maybe you had a to used oil in the engine or a bad one and you have deposits inside and the new oil washed those and received some black colour from them.
Next time before adding some new oil use a motor flush to clean it, but be carrefully when chosing it.

Speedometer repair
Had the same problem with the 09 speedo massively over- reading from time to time. A good clout with the side of a gloved hand would sort it sometimes. Ultimately, it's a defective speedo and these babies are more expensive to fix than to replace because they are sealed. If you look on eBay or similar you will sometimes find replacements for sale. Just make sure you get the 09 Efi version as the previous ones did not have the engine management connection and the 2011 had a re-design and again, won't fit.

My 1997 900 Triumph sport sprint started to run on
Sounds like something has clogged one of the pilot jets in the carburators. You can figure out which one by feeling which pipe is cold after running for a short time. Probably best to clean all 3 carbs while you have them off.

My 2003 sprint rs doesn't hold revs when starting,
Your Sprint has no choke as its injected and fuel is controlled by the ECM. So this said there are a few possible things to check.1 TPS throttle position sensor voltage.2 Barametric pressure sensor (MAP)3 Do you use fuel containing ethanol, injected bikes hate the stuff, makes them hard to start. Number 3 is an easy thing to try, 1 and 2 you will need to look at the ECM with a computer. Its very easy and the cable to connect to your laptop is about $14. OBD2 to USB cable.
