Water pump problem?

- mine did the same - but also after it was parked there was often a sound coming from the engine for some minutes. There must be some air bubbles in the water-cooling system which was not drained properly at the factory... - don't worry - after about a year it will stop making such silly noises.. 9aea40cf-39a9-44d0-9333-05b2cb1097e0-mczlf01wwjsjuqkllhq300d1-1-0.jpeg Cooling system Vespa GTS 300 ie 2009 2012 USA b73823b4-bd47-4228-9be8-20d69dc685ef-mczlf01wwjsjuqkllhq300d1-1-2.jpeg

Why won't it start

There are normally 3 things that an engine needs to start. Fuel, spark and air. Start by checking if there is fuel to the engine, this can be done by removing hoses or at the bottom of most carburetors there is normally a small screw to drain the bowl of the carburetor. loosen it until fuel comes out. No fuel is a fuel problem work backwards from there to the tank. Consult the trouble shooting part of the manual also. There should be a step by step process. Next by checking if it has spark, take out the spark plug and put it back into the plug plug lead, get someone to hold it by the rubber bit against a metal part on the Vespa, not aluminium, the steal frame is good but pick a place where the paint has worn off. A spark should cross the electrodes, nice and blue is good, yellow is weak. Ensure all connections are clear of oil and dirt, if not clean them. Next check the air filter/cleaner, normally under the seat near the carburetor intake. If the filter is dirty, clean it or replace it. Good luck,

The clear one connects to the battery vent connection and vents under the vehicle. The other two likely are overflow hoses coming from the carburetor to prevent engine flooding if the float valve is not sealing well causing gasoline level to get too high. They are open to the air.

Vespa wont start after long storage

Check for bad fuel, clogged carburetor and that the battery is still charged. If you store it for long periods put it on a battery tender to be safe.

Many answers you need a multimeter or ammeter to measure the quiescent current drawn (power used when nothing turned on) Set it on the 10a scale and measure the current drawn ,put the leads in series with the battery feed wire. Causes could be a faulty regulator pack or a short on the stator of the generator,a scuffed cable shorting to earth ,(usually around the brake light switch) or a faulty switch causing a lamp to light continuously . I could go on but that should give you a starting point. good luck

When applying the brakes on my vespa px the lights go out and the rear brake light doesn't work

That would indicate that you have a short to ground in the circuit, so that when you apply the brakes, you ground the system and the lights cut off. Check all of the wiring carefully, especially at the brake lever and make sure that when you move the lever, no wires are caught or moving.

What causes my fat boy to idle just fine but fall on its face back fire and try to shut down while riding

Some common causes and potential solutions: Air/Vacuum Leak: If your Harley develops a vacuum leak in its air intake system, the air-fuel mixture becomes too rich. This can cause frequent stall outs, especially after the bike warms up. Vacuum leaks often occur due to dried-out or cracked air intake boots, faulty gaskets, or worn-out carburetor seals. When air escapes from the intake system, the fuel fills the empty space in the combustion chamber, altering the air/fuel ratio and negatively impacting combustion. Severe vacuum leaks can lead to excess fuel flowing into the exhaust system, causing backfiring and stalling while riding. Clogged Fuel Tank Filter/Fuel Injectors: A blocked fuel tank filter (due to coagulated fuel, moisture, dirt, or corrosion) impairs fuel flow, resulting in a lean air/fuel ratio. On fuel-injected Harleys, clogged fuel injectors produce similar symptoms. Regular maintenance, including cleaning and inspecting fuel filters, helps prevent these issues. Faulty Cam Chain Tensioner: A malfunctioning cam chain tensioner can affect engine timing and cause stalling. Regular checks and replacements are essential to avoid this problem. Faulty Cam Position Sensor: The cam position sensor plays a crucial role in ignition timing. If it malfunctions, it can lead to stalling and backfiring. Clogged Air Cleaner: A dirty air cleaner restricts airflow, affecting combustion efficiency. Regularly clean or replace the air filter to prevent this issue. Ignition System Failure: Faulty ignition components (such as spark plugs, ignition coils, or wires) can cause misfires, backfires, and stalling. Inspect and maintain these parts regularly. Compromised Battery Terminal Connection: Poor battery connections can disrupt electrical flow, affecting the ignition system. Ensure clean and secure battery terminals. Remember that diagnosing and addressing these issues may require professional assistance. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can keep your Fat Boy running smoothly on the road.
