First, get a new spark plug. Next remove the gas tank and check the small black wire running out of the coil. Is it plugged into a wire connector?. Check the spark plug wire and plug cap also. All connections should be snug and clean. Is the handlebar kill switch in the off position? Check the key switch wire connections. Check the neutral switch wire. I don't remember if the side stand had a kill switch or not. Check it out. I think it didn't have a switch. Check the battery connections. Check the wire coming from the points. Good connection? Run a fingernail file between the contact points to remove any pitting and foreign matter. Set the points to a .015 opening when the points are at full open position on the cam. These things are in the sequence I would check. Please rate my answer.

Ring your local dealer and ask them, they'll give you the model and year of production then you can either get a Haynes/Climer or workshop manual.
Trying to figure out the
Most motorcycles, including Yamaha, have a model tag on the steering head portion of the frame under the handle bars. It will include the year as well, or the date of manufacture. If the date of manufacture was in the fall of the year, the model year will be the year after the date on the tag. For example, if the date of manufacture was 11/2005, it would be a 2006 model. If the tag is missing, the VIN number is stamped into the frame in that area as well. Write it down and call the dealer parts counter they should be able to give you year make and model from the number. Good luck!
Big end bearing has disintegrated.
If it's a 2-stroke, you'll need a crank puller and a case splitting tool to get this done, the crank is press fit into the magneto side bearing. If it's a 4-stroke, no special tools are required. Always pull the clutch side case off, leaving the transmission and crank in the magneto side. It's way easier to keep the transmission organized this way. Good luck!
Bike jumps 2nd gear very
Hello,
If the bike is jumping or skipping 2nd gear it probably has a bad shifter fork. In order to fix the problem you will need to take the transmission apart. I have seen rare case in which changing the weight oil can help, if the fork is not broken completely.
Good luck
I was given a 1975
There is only one fuel line that goes to the carb. Just get some fuel line and connect it from the gas tank to the carb. The other hose connections on the carb are vent lines, that go up over the top of the carb and the back down the other side and hang down lower than the carb. they vent the carb bowl
2005 Yamaha v star 650 losing power
What Exactly does the bike do when it 'loses power'? This will give clues as to where the issue could be. When was the last time the bike was given a major service? Sometimes it can be as simple as a dirty fuel/air filter or an old/worn or dirty spark plug.
