2006 Honda VTX 1300 Questions & Answers
Is 15,000 miles a lot on a 2006 honda vtx 1300
Generally yes. I think the rule with cycle engines is to triple the milage to approximate the age of the engine. However, highway milage is less wearing than city milage or off road use.

Carb needs cleaned out. If you stored it with out turning gas off and running it dry will cause it to gum the carb. Dry gas might help. You might try using carb cleaner through the air filter intake. have someone help you. get it started and keep gunning it while putting carb cleaner into it. start slow. This should take care of it. Might also need to replace plugs. But I do believe it is the carb. I work on small engines.

Flooded engine on 1300c vtx
Bsmith747,
Naturally the engine will go back to normal. However, there are a few other processes that some folks use to speed up the process.
Option 1-Remove the spark plugs and crank over the engine, wipe off the plugs, put the plugs back in and you should be good.
Option 2-Turn off the fuel, hold the throttle wide open and crank the engine.
Personally, I have used option 1 quite a few times. May be a bit time consuming to pull out the plugs etc, but works well. Otherwise let the bike sit and everything should be good.

The tire that determines the speed on the speedometer is the front tire. To fix your problem you need to put a TALLER front tire on your cycle. If your front tire is a 140/80x17 you can correct the problem by putting on a 140/90x17 . Going from an 80 profile to a 90 profile should correct your speedometer by almost 5 MPH. Hopefully , you can find a tire that size that is available.
I want to wire up
If you plug into the low beam wire , it won't charge when it is on high beam (and vice-a-versa). I recommend you put on a cheap accessory plug (similar to a cigarette lighter only plastic). You can hide it in a tool bag. A standard charger will draw power even if it does not have anything to charge plugged into it( not desirable). An accessory plug will allow you to plug in a cell phone, radar detector, etc. or unplug easily. If there is no accessory wire listed in your owners manual , I recommend you tie into the power wire going into the winker relay. This should give you power any time the bike is turned on.
