My 1974 yamaha dt175 seems
The 175 is a two stroke and if gas were getting past the piston it would collect in the crank chamber which is sealed from the gearbox and gear oil. If the gearbox oil is a white-ish color the problem is water emulsifed in the oil.
As far a the cutting out, many things could cause it. The points need filed and set or replaced, the carb and filter need cleaning, bad crank bearings (usually the crank seals are bad also), condensor or coil is going bad. I have listed the items in probable secquence Hold the flywheel firmly in both hands and then lift up and down, left and right. If it is not ROCK SOLID the crank bearings need replaced. Any other questions just post a reply. By the way, you can still get many of the parts to your bike at Babbitt's. Go to the website below to see an exploded diagram of the engine and other parts of the bike. Let me know what you find out.

What type oil can be used in the clutch
You can use Castrol 10W40 without any problems. It's a lot cheaper than motorcycle specific oils with the same ammount of protection. I've been using that oil on all my motocross bikes and never had a problem. Since it's cheaper oil, I am able to change it often and always keep clean fresh oil in the clutch.
I recently bought a bike and have been told the
The magnetor is on the side of the motor behind an engine cover. It supplies the high voltage to the points and subsequently to the sparkplug and low voltage to the rest of the bike such as the lights. The switch block could possibly be "electronic ignition" instead of points.
Assembly manual
you can look for the manual at your nearest yamaha factory base showroom or distibutor or dealer near by or if that dose'nt solve this then visit the yamaha motors offical website for your quaries so friend see you soon...
Dt 125
Hi .........
In your case I would suspect that your timing is retarded and the bike would run better/correctly if you set it to factory spec. Or maybe you have a mechanical 'advance' and it's stuck in the retarded position?
Good problem ............ let me know how you get on
