Is the clutch working correctly are the plates compressed. Without operating the clutch lever the clutch should be fully lock the center hub to the outside cage. Does the clutch front plate move when you squeeze the lever? If not I would suggest the springs are: - a) too long, b) not correct for your model or c) have too much tension in them and so holding the clutch open.
