I appreciate that this is only a similar problem but my wife had a similar problem with her old vaxhaul corsa, we got the big guy across the road to help because big guys are usually good with this sort of thing lol, ok he had a great car lots of tools and was always inside his cars engine. He came across half hour later with jump leads and I yelled stop because not just sparks but the cable covers melted and I found it to be a little off. after that we had nothing, no ignition, no lights just nothing and a car mechanic came looked in the engine but couldnt see anything we explained about the battery and on testing it he found that the battery itself first drained as suspected and then we broke it by overloading it somehow in the end a new battery sorted the problem which cost £50 but in the long run we thought it a good price. the battery lasted us another 4 years until the car had had enough and went in for scrap. hope you can take something from that and you can sort your bike :)

The petcock has a diaphragm and needs a vacuum to allow fuel to flow, It is a safety fuel shut off, if the engine stops NO VACUUM, NO FUEL to carbs, there is usually a vacuum take off on the inlet manifold pipe between the carb and the engine. Hope that helps

Personally I would locate an illustrated parts manual for your motor and determine if they are interchangeable. Also, check with a Suzuki dealership for interchangeability of the coils. I am a Harley man personally and I would not even think of putting coils on my motor that are not made for it. Bikes are funny creatures and often very unforgiving. Buy OEM parts made for your particiular model motor and you will be very happy. Don't risk it even if there is a chance they are interchangeable. Are you willing to burn up your ignition system for it?
I am getting a gas leak out of the breather tube
Make sure that you have a fuel filter on your fuel petcock or add an inline filter to keep rust from holding a float needle open. The carburetor in question may have either has a sunk float or a bad float needle or both. If the offending carburetor also has the vacuum line from the vacuum petcock, you may need to rebuild/replace the petcock if the vacuum diaphragm is leaking gas directly into the manifold/carburetor. Take apart and clean your carburetors. Inspect the needles and diaphragms for damage and replace if necessary.
I have an 81 gs 750 i went to fire it up a few
Hello David, the "pop" hopefully was the main inline power supply fuse. If you were jumping starting with a car battery, it could be more serious if the fuse did not blow fast enough. Follow the positive cable off the battery. You should find an inline fuse, somewhere in the heavy gauge wire. Usually 25-30amp. If you have a 12vdc test light, it will help to locate. I hope this information is helpful.
Gas is leaking out of
Sounds like you are talking about the over flow, or vent lines. These come from the carbs, and hang down toward the bottom of the engine. If you have fuel running out of one, it could be due to a float sticking in one of your carbs.
My battery in 1981 suzuki
Start the bike and put a voltmeter across the battery; you should get a reading of probably around 13.5V. If you're getting only about 12V or less, the battery isn't charging. From there you will need to go to the alternator terminal on the regulator and see if you're getting more than 12V. If you are, the regulator is probably bad, if not it could be a bad rectifier if there is a seperate rectifier or a bad stator. Good luck and safe riding.
