On centre stand grab front wheel and check for smooth side to side/ no play back and forth (head bearings or front shock bush problem) Low tyre pressure? Half your wardrobe in the panniers?

I had this problem and it was the Hall effect sensors my bike would just cut out and a very slight misfire, change the coils, leads and plugs then I found it was the sensors I know a place that is cheap if you need them because from BMW £280 for the boash replacements

I would say it is a faulty engine temp or Air temp sensor,

It is the same motor that makes it go up and down, it appears that the switch is your problem, take the switch apart and check that the contacts for both up and down are clean and making good contact when the switch is pushed...a wire may have worked itself off.....

get a repair manual, but usually the fuse box top will have a layout of fuse sizes and uses.

Bikes in the US don't have the switches, but European bikes do. So the switch is available and will be on the parts microfiche. If you are unable to locate the switch part number, try giving Max BMW a call, they do a pretty good job finding the right part number.

I love my R1150RT. It is smooth, it has a lot more lug at lower RPM than the older modles (2003 and before models with 1 spark plug). The modifications with 2 spark plugs have cured all the surging. Should you want a smooth, reliable, comfortable and high speed touring bike, I would sauggest this bike is the best.

I initially ordered the wrong part number and the plug was incompatible. I got really good service on getting the right one ordered and returning the wrong one for credit. It's not the lowest cost option but worked well for me. I also built my own timing light for about $12 of radio shack parts. Worked like a champ.
