Harley trouble codes

u need a chart that xplains each one--service manuals like clymer have details or the mechanic who scanned bike--a code reader just gives a general direction--a data stream run will pinpoint the problem--dont want to just replace parts and hope-

Why is there no throttle response and the engine light is on on my 2010 HD FLHTCU 96 ci ?

You've got to twist the grip HAHA ! Seriously, you can do a test by yourself, press the trip button on the speedo, with the ignition off. One second later (keeping the button pressed) turn the ignition on and you-ll see a self test on the speedo. After the needle pegs and all leds come on, you'll see in the counter area a type of code. Using the trip button again you can read the ecm and tsm modules errors. Just press and hold the trip button as you go along. In one of the fields an error should come on like "P1005" or similar. You can look it up on the net. There is also a TSB out on the throttle TT-418 there were issues with the terminal connections at the throttle body. Riding today and at 35

If your bike is equipped with the newer self tensioning primary chain adjuster, it should have felt tight. This type of tensioner keeps the chain tight by using primary oil in the tensioner. I'd take it to the dealer for service if it's due.

Good Luck

Idiot light for engine and battery come one for a couple of seconds when I accelerate.

This usually means your alternator is going. You can check things out using a voltmeter, first check the battery voltage with the bike off. Then start the bike and check voltage at the battery while idling, it should be higher, this proves the alternator is charging the battery. Check again at several RPM levels. If you find the voltage at the battery at various rpm levels is the same (or lower) than the value with the bike off then the alternator is actually discharging or "soaking" the battery and it's time to replace the alternator ring. You might also try to see if there are any fault codes, this link will show you how to do that: http://www.hdforums.com/forum/sportster-models/302797-updated-how-to-diagnostic-trouble-codes-dtcs.html UPDATED How To Diagnostic Trouble Codes DTC Harley Davidson Forums If you need further help, reach me via phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/david_1f7d1c330c9dd97d

If you have power to the amp and no sound, check the amp outputs directly. It could be wiring or the amp itself.

Harley davidson backfire

Backfiring is usually the result of ignition timing that is advanced too much. Retard the timing a bit to see if it stops. A tune up should solve this if you can\'t.

My cruise control quit working. had cruise set,

Check the connection on your throttle cables. It is usually on the left side between the tank and the forks. It is pretty easy to spot as your cables are the same size then, the enlarged part there houses the connector. Clean thorughly, make sure connected well. verify the LEDs are lit when you have the cruise on, then verify other LED when engaged.

How to change oil

On the earlier dressers (Evolution engines), the oil tank is on the bottom of the transmission. If you look underneath the transmission, you'll see two drain plugs. The one closest to the left side of the bike is the engine oil drain, the one in the center is the transmission drain.

Ride bike to warm the oil up and then remove the drain plug. Let old oil drain out. Remove and replace oil filter, simply screw the old one off and screw the new one on. This is a messy job. Oil goes everywhere. I cut a plastic milk jug so it will fit around the bottom side of the filter to catch most of the oil.

Refill oil tank with the prescribed amount of oil, on that bike, I think that's four quarts. Pour in three and check the level, if still low, add the last quart. I think they bike came with H-D Syn3 from the factory.

Oil is at the "add oil mark" on my ultra classic do I need to add oil before I get it to operating temp to change the oil?

Not if you are changing the oil, just do the change, then check your oil when the engine is fully warmed up and the bike is level. If you need further help, reach me via phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/david_1f7d1c330c9dd97d

2005 ultra classic low oil pressure and making tapping noise. Is changing oil and filter likely to be a fix? Just got the bike a week ago has 25000 miles

The engine is sensitive to oil weight and quality of oil due to the valves lifter being hydraulic lifters. Yes changing the oil could help. Lifter may have failed. Oil pump my have failed.

Bike will not turn over, security icon flashes alone with the turn signals. Battery test OK.

Have you used the new PIN to manually disable the security system? Do not turn handlebars, straddle seat or lift motorcycle off the jiffy stand. During a PIN disarm, if the security system detects motorcycle motion the system will activate. Turn ignition to IGN. If armed, the odometer window display will read: ENTER PIN and the security lamp will be flashing at a fast rate. The headlight will not be on. Press and release the left turn signal switch. In the odometer window, a flashing 1 will appear. Increment the digit by tapping the left turn signal until the odometer window displays the first digit of the PIN. The first digit in the odometer will be the first digit in the PIN. Press right turn switch 1 time. The first digit is stored and the next digit will flash. Increment the second digit using the left turn switch until the digit reaches the second digit of the PIN. The second digit in the odometer will be the second digit in the PIN. Press right turn switch 1 time. The second digit is stored and the next dash will flash. Increment the third digit using the left turn switch until it reaches the third digit of the PIN. The third digit in the odometer will be the third digit in the PIN. Press right turn switch 1 time. The third digit is stored and the next dash will flash. Increment the fourth digit using the left turn switch until it reaches the fourth digit of the PIN. The fourth digit in the odometer will be the fourth digit in the PIN. Press right turn switch 1 time. The fourth digit is stored and the next dash will flash. Increment the fifth digit using the left turn switch until it reaches the fifth digit of the PIN. The fifth digit in the odometer will be the fifth digit in the PIN. Press right turn switch 1 time. The fifth digit is stored. The security system indicator lamp stops blinking. Smart Security System is disarmed. If a mistake is made while entering PIN, turn the ignition Switch to OFF before entering the last digit and then start the procedure from the beginning. If the procedure fails to disarm the security system, wait two minutes before attempting another PIN disarm. The security system will remain disarmed until the ignition is turned to OFF.

Lights will not turn off

First you need to isolate the the key switch by unplugging it and test for continuity in the off position witch would mean the switch is bad.

How can i get at the battery

The battery is directly under the seat. You will have to first remove the tour pack, then unscrew the retaining screw on the back fender; once that screw is removed, you can remove the seat. You can't miss the battery, it is DIRECTLY under the seat; with the seat off you aer going to see a big black plastic cover; remove that and presto! the battery is exposed.
