1985 Honda GL 1200 Aspencade Gold Wing Questions & Answers
Poor running in first and second gear
Now what you have pictured there is a GL 1200 LTD. Not an Aspencade. These are two different breeds. One is completley computerized and the other isn't. If it is the LTD, it could be the electrical connection under the seat not having good contact causing less fuel pressure at lower RPMs.
Runs rough under load
Sounds as though your fuel filter is plugged, or you might have a bad spark plug, I would check those first, You didn't state what year, make or model bike, so it's hard to say... Check the gap on your spark plugs, change out your fuel filter, then have a shop check out your timing, you might have gotten water in your fuel.
How to change water pump
Need to remove the front covers for the timing belts, the water pump is located there. Make sure that the timing marks are lined up with the case, (Round plug top of motor) Mark the position of the cams or lock them so they will not turn when you remove the timing belts the water pump is located near the center close to the belt center drive.
How do I replace water pump
1.remove the bolts securing the water pump cover to the engine front cover and remove (3 bolts) watch out for the dowel pins
2 remove the remaining bolts securing the engine front cover and remove cover and gasket(8 bolts) watch out for the dowel pins and the o-ring seals around the openings
3 remove the bolts securing the water pump and remove water pump.watch out for o rings
4 rotate the oil pump shaft so the tab on the end of the shaft is vertical
5.oil the new o rings on the housing
6 install new water pump and tighten up
7 position the groove on the water pump shaft vertically so it will align with the tab on the oil pump shaft
8 install the front cover (new gaskets and o rings)
The above came out of my manual. It looks fairly straight forward but watch out for the little o rings they can be a pain. good luck
