1986 Honda GL 1200 Aspencade Gold Wing - Page 8 Questions & Answers
My 86 GW 1200 Aspencade
You may need a new battery. You should have the charging system tested to insure that it is working properly. It should be putting out at least 14.2 volts @ 1500 rpm, (no more than 15 volts)
1986 Aspencade clutch not working
Do I understand you added DOT fluid to your engine to fix your clutch problem?
Clutch is normally activated by a cable while brakes are activated through a master cyclender which uses DOT fluid.
If you have brake fluid in your engine ... get it out immediately. It might be time to get help from your local Honda Shop.
I have a 1986 Honda
The early model Gold Wings were known for the timing belt coming off or jumping a tooth when the bike went down or fell over. I had a friend who dropped his in the sandy soft shoulder of his driveway, the timing belt did jump. Hope that helps, at least the timing belt is fairly easy to access.
I have a 1986 GL1200A
be aware I'm a auto mechanic and by no means a expert on bikes but don't think unless it fuel injected (which i doubt being it a 1986 ) i don't think it even has a fuel pump usually just gravity feeds out of tank sounds more like a coil getting hot(and shutting down next time it dies out on u check to see if it got spark if not it probably the coil
On a 1986 Honda Aspencade
Typically Honda places the rollover sensor on the underside of the lower triple clamp. Should be visible above the front fender
How do i get rear
With a small c-clamp. That's the preferred way. You can get a cheapo 6 or 8" mouthed one for around $10 at an auto parts store. Thanks for using FixYa!!
Take gas tank out
Don't know what year your bike is but generally, remove any farings in the way then remove the tank. Only two or three bolts hold it on. I suggest you get a liquid tank liner to seal the rust and prevent further corrosion. This way you never have the problem again.
Google “ kreem liquid fuel tank liner “ or go to www.http://www.4secondsflat.com/Fuel_Tank_Sealer.html
Can I get a “very helpful” rating on this answer?
Need to know the best way to take gas tank out
You have several of options >
- Remove the tank and try for a better tank from a salvage yard ( Google " motorcycle salvage honda " and " Vintage motorcycle parts honda ").
- Get a new gas tank from Babbitts. Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock. $270 to $650 depending on year.

Keep your existing tank by getting a liquid tank liner. Pour it in, swish it around, let it set, rust is no longer a problem > ever. Google “ kreem fuel tank liner “ or go to www.http://www.4secondsflat.com/Fuel_Tank_Sealer.html
Personally, the tank liner is low cost and works extremely well. Tank removal is an involved effort. You would be well served in getting a service manual for the bike. With the manual you can do more than just fix the tank. One oil change and the manual pays for itself. Now you can do a whole lot more than just an oil change.
Google "service manuals honda" or try your local library. Often guys will donate manuals to the library. You can also go to www.repairmanuals.com and probably purchase a manual there.
THow about a top rating for this answer? Thanks!
Honda PC50 moped VIN decoder
To read the serial number on a Honda PC50 moped, follow these steps:
Locate the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number): The VIN is a unique code that provides information about your moped. On a Honda PC50, you can find the VIN in the following places:
Under the Air Filter Cover: Look on the left-hand side, just above the engine. The VIN should be stamped there. It typically looks like this: PC50 - 1234567.
Frame Number: The frame number is another term for the VIN. It's usually located near the air filter body.
Decode the VIN: The VIN contains important details about your moped, including the year of manufacture. Here's how to interpret it:
The 9th digit of the VIN is a check digit.
The 10th digit represents the year code. For example:
A = 1980
B = 1981
C = 1982
D = 1983
E = 1984
F = 1985
G = 1986
H = 1987
J = 1988
K = 1989
L = 1990
M = 1991
N = 1992
P = 1993
R = 1994
S = 1995
T = 1996
V = 1997
W = 1998
X = 1999
1 = 2000
2 = 2001
3 = 2002
Note that if your scooter was manufactured between February 1986 and February 1987, it's likely to be a '87 model;
Additional Resources:
If you have the full VIN, you can use the NHTSA VIN decoder to get detailed information about your moped.
Alternatively, you can call Honda with your VIN, and they will provide you with the necessary information.

Honda 500 TRX fa6 has PS on the dash….what does it mean ?
The Power Steering has failed. There has been a factory recall for a suddenly failing electrical steering shaft, that could cause the rider to loose control. This does not have to be your problem but anyhow either the electronics or the pump failed. Error codes or messages usually have to be erased by a simple reset procedure or disconnecting a plug, after repairs are done.

What to torque the head on my 99 CBR 929 Honda in
For a 1999 Honda CBR929RR, the cylinder head bolt torque specifications are essential to ensure proper engine assembly and function. When tightening the cylinder head bolts, it's crucial to follow the manufacturer's recommended torque settings to prevent damage to the engine components.
For the CBR929RR, the cylinder head bolt torque specifications are typically as follows:
1. **Initial Torque:** 29 Nm (2.9 kgf-m, 22 ft-lbs)
2. **Final Torque:** 64 Nm (6.4 kgf-m, 47 ft-lbs)
It's essential to tighten the cylinder head bolts in the specified sequence and in multiple stages, gradually increasing the torque until reaching the final specified torque. The exact tightening sequence can usually be found in the service manual specific to your motorcycle model.
When torquing the head bolts, ensure you're using a reliable torque wrench calibrated in the appropriate units (Nm or ft-lbs). Always follow the tightening sequence precisely to ensure even pressure distribution across the cylinder head gasket.
Additionally, it's advisable to use new cylinder head bolts if the old ones have been previously tightened or stretched beyond their yield point. This helps maintain proper clamping force and ensures the integrity of the engine assembly.
As always, referring to the service manual or consulting a professional mechanic experienced with motorcycle engine assembly can provide additional guidance and ensure the correct torque settings are applied during the cylinder head installation process.

2006 Honda Shadow Arrow 750 VT missing on the rear cylinder fire
. One possibility is that the spark plug or plug wire is faulty 1. Another possibility is that the carburetor needs cleaning and adjustment It could also be due to a valve adjustment issue or a bent rod.
I would recommend taking your motorcycle to a professional mechanic who can diagnose and fix the issue. If you prefer to troubleshoot it yourself, you can start by checking the spark plug and plug wire for any damage or wear and cleaning the carburetor. However, please note that working on a motorcycle engine can be dangerous and requires specialized knowledge and tools. Please take all necessary safety precautions and follow the manufacturer's instructions when working on your motorcycle.
