Oil and filter change on honda cbr 900 fireblade
The 1996 fireblade holds 3.6 litres of 10 w40 sf grade engine oil. With the engine warm, Place machine on a suitible stand, remove filler cap, place a container under engine to catch oil, undo sump oil plug with a 17 mm spanner in an anticlockwise direction, be carefull not to alow hot oil onto your skin as it will burn, while this is draining into a container, undo and remove oil filter, with suitable tools, when replacing follow instructions on filter packet, top up engine oil until it meets the required level, start engine for a couple of mins, allow oil to settle before rechecking and if ness top up to the correct level
How to change the oil
Use
only a JASO MA
certified motorcycle oil. Automotive oil uses different additives and
will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. Shell
Rotella T Synthetic (15w-40 about $22) and Shell Rotella standard oil ($12 a gallon) for diesel engines , both are JASO MA
rated for motorcycles.10w-40
oil is good for cold climate. 20w-50 for hot climate/touring. Synthetic
oil will make your cycle run cooler and shift easier. For the engine you will need four quarts
of oil, a spin on filter, a filter wrench, and a drain plug washer. Place a pan under the engine, take out the drain plug under the motor, and hold the motorcycle upright to get as much oil out as you can. Unscrew the oil filter with the wrench, wet the rubber o-ring of the new filter with oil, and screw it on following the directions on the filter. Replace the drain plug with a new washer and tighten it but be careful not to over tighten it. It only has to seal in the oil , it doesn't have to hold the head on! Pour in three quarts and check the oil level by placing your
motorcycle on the center stand or holding upright and looking at the dip stick. Run the motor and top up as
needed. You will probably need about 3.5 quarts.
If changing the oil filter you will have to run the motor to get
an accurate oil level reading.
Where is the fuse box
A Honda I recently had dealing with did not have a fuse box, it just had a few inline fuses, but if there is a fuse box, under the sadle would be a logical place to put it.
My neautral light is not working and the bike only
hi the reason for this is because your motorcycle is fited with a safety switch on the side stand and clutch lever, which stops you starting your machine whilst it in gear to avoid accidents. i would first check that your motorcycle is infact in neutrol and not in between a gear higher up in the gearbox, have you fitted the gear lever in reverse order this would mean whilst you think you are changing up the box you are actualy changing down, if this is not the case you will have to locate the neutrol light switch this will be located on the rear topside of the engine, or the lefthand side of the engine under the front sprocket cover, it will have a single wire going to it. once located remove the wire and earth it to the engine or frame if the light then comes on this will rule out a break in the wire, and the switch itself is at fault as it works on a live earth principle the live goes to the bulb and the switch earths it out to bring on the light quite simple realy
Fireblade indicators
Have you check all wiring to your turning signals and tail& headlight as it seems to me it has a cross-over when you are turning right and powered by the tail & headlight power when turing left/
Good enough?
Rattle from engine when accelerating
Maybe what you are hearing is detonation or pre-ignition. Primarily caused by low quality gasoline without a high enough octane rating. Buy the highest rated high rated gas you can, and if that does not work, have the engine timing checked. Also try a lower gear while accelerating.
Starts but only on fireing on two sislders
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
On your concern of a 1996 Honda CBR900RR firing only on 2 cylinders, the problem would be:
- electrical - if pairing is either 1 & 4 or 2 & 3;
- air / fuel (carb) - if pairing is 1 & 2 or 3 & 4.
Postback which pair is not firing.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
