1998 Honda XR 250 R Questions & Answers
I have a Honda XR250
Sounds like one of two possible problems.
1.) You have overfilled the oil level.
2.) You have a faulty oil pump.
The 98 xr250 is a dry sump model and the oil pump, pumps oil back to the frame/tank (oil in frame). If you have too much oil in your system the oil tank overflows back into the engine the excess oil can affect the internal pressure in the engine this can cause some of the excess to be vented through the crank case breather. A more severe and urgent problem could be a failure of the oil pump to return oil to the tank , this could lead to severe engine damage as your oil system could be starved. Firstly drain all your oil and measure what comes out , should be no more than 1.4 litres, if you have more you have found the problem !! If the amount of oil is correct, then i am afraid you will have to open the engine and have the oil pump / lubrication system examined / replaced by a professional.
Hope this helps
Hello what is the capacity oil of honda xr 250
The oil capacity of an XR250R / L is 1.3 litres if you are only changing oil.
If you are changing oil and filter you need 1.4 litres.
The oil type should be API grade SF or SG multi-grade oil for motorcycles.
Viscosity 10W-40 as standard but 10W-30 ,20W-40 or 20W-50 are acceptable dependent on the temperatures where you live, your supplier can advise on this.
Xr 250 honda i pulled my sons motor bike and all
If they are in the case push them into the holes until they hit the threads do not tighten. Move the bolts from hole to hole until they all protrude from the case the same distance. They should then be in their correct positions.
The battery over heats
Your regulator should be controlling your volts to 13.4 any thing more than that is not good ,put a D/C test across the battery and hold at 1000 revs you should not exceed 13.4 volts anything higher ,throw it away and purchase a new one .
Oil in magneto on xr 250
Hi,
I would suspect that you have a failing oil seal to the magneto shaft where it exits the engine. If you are a bit of a DIY mechanic and have a puller to remove the magneto rotor, it is not too hard to fix. You will need to strip down and replace the seal. Otherwise it may be something you need to get a shop to help you with. Cheers

How do you time it after you change the gasket
I assume you are talking about the cam timing. If so, then you first turn the engine so that the "T" mark on the flywheel lines up with the index mark in the timing hole cover. This places the piston at top dead center (TDC). Now position the camshaft so that the cam lobes are both facing downward. Align the two marks on the cam sprocket with the cylinder head cover gasket surface (making sure the piston is still at TDC). Install the two bolts through the sprocket and screw them into the camshaft. Done.
When I start my 1998 honda xr80r it revs to near full throttle
it sounds to me like the throttle slide has been installed incorrectly, unscrew the throttle housing off the top of the carb(it looks like a cap and the throttle cable goes through it)remove the throttle slide from the housing, down one side of the throttle slide there is a piece cut out that goes the whole length of the slide (lookes like a groove),inside the carb body there is a small brass knob, this groove or cutout goes over the knob and it stops the throotle slide from rotating, once you have installed the slide back in the carb the slide should drop right to the bottom of the housing, you can check this by looking through the rear of the carb and you should be able to see the bottom of the throttle slide,if the slide is installed incorectly the little brass knob stops the throttle slide dropping to the bottom of the housing and will give full throttle, its an easy fix and wont take more than 10mins to repair, hope this helps
I have an 1998 xr250. it ran great and very strong
There are two causes of your problem that I can think of: firstly, it may be that you, even after changing some jets, haven't got the air/fuel mixture right. If i were you, I'd put the standart jets back in, set the needle position to the middle position, and screw the air/fuel mixture screw 2,5 rotations ( 900 degrees) out from fully screwed in. This should return your bike's mixture settings to approximately standart. Then, using this page

determine if you have a rich or a lean mixture, and adjust accordingly. If you have any more questions, or would like me to clarify something, please ask.
300 FOURTRAX CLUTCH
not the clutch. problem should be in the trans or the ratchet mechanism on the shift drum
