1998 Honda CBR 900 RR Fireblade - Page 3 Questions & Answers
How hot is real hot, mine seams to be up around
Disregard the gauge they can be inaccurate. Honda's can run hot depending on outside temperature,weather, traffic, etc. At freeway speeds you will find the standard needle position for driving. If the needle hits the red mark does the fan turn on ? This is a sign you are hot but OK. Are you boiling over? This means you have a problem with the fan, fan switch,thermostat, coolant level, or water pump. Every bike runs a little different you will have to determine what is normal (for your gauge) and work from there. If you are not boiling over and your fan works you may just have a high reading gauge or temp sender.
I have a 1998 honda cbr900rr my key broke in my
Did you replace it with an OEM ignition switch and connect all wires correctly?
Was the bike "ON" when the key broke?
Check your batery state if still good or replace it when it is not.
Good enough?
My headlights just stopped working on my 1998
Hi and welcome to the site,
Initially, (
depending on the version) check:
- 20A fuse;
- the fuse holder;
- +12 on the black/red wire from fuse holder;
- connector to right handlebar switches;
- hidden headlight switch in the starter switch;
- +12 on the white wire;
- dimmer switch.
Good luck and thank you for asking.
When replacing oil on a CBR 900, what type of oil
Use 10W-40 oils for motorcycles such as from Penrite, Castrol or Benray. a little over a gallon (1 gal +1 qt). Use high performance oil filter from Hi-flow as they are the best to use.
Good enough?
No power
Check the starter side of your start solenoid ... your solenoid may be faulty.
Bike is back firing
Have you tried new spark plugs? One fouled plug or bad spark plug cap can cause backfiring. Possibly dirty carbs ( a stuck float). Backfiring on deceleration can be caused by bad exhaust gaskets where the headers attach to the head (an air leak)
My 1998 Fireblade always starts fine, but will
Seriously it is a fine line with the manual choke. Engine has to be a certain temp to run without the choke. But you know that.
If I was you (assuming you have the skills) id clean out the carbs paying particular attention to the idle circuits. I have a feeling it is just a quirky thing about these bikes though. Confirm with some other like bike owners or the dealer.
WHERE IS THE STARTER RELAY LOCATED. THERE ARE
its normaly the one that has the battery teminal from it...or if still un sure...why dont you press the start button...but have your hand on the relays & see which one clicks!!!...this should tell you which one it is
I need to remove the coolant reservoir from a 1996
Why do you need to remove teh reservoir? If only to replace coolant **** out coolent with wet/dry vacuum cleaner. The coolant drainplug is on the waterpump, which is jut sabove the gear shift. The bit of old water that remains is nothingto worry about. Be careful of airlocks when refilling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
96 blade fuel tank starvation?
The petcock has a safety in it that only allows fuel to flow when there is vaccuum applied to it. There is a second hose beside fuel hose that goes to diaphram in petcock. If the hose collapses or the diaphram ruptures then fuel wont flow. If you pull the hose off the back of the diaphram and see fuel then the diaphram is definitely shot. When you take the tank off fuel shouldn't flow. If you apply vaccuum to the port on the back of the petcock it should begin to flow. If not then petcock is bad. If it does check hose from engine to petcock.
Gas is pumpin through the petcock through the line
If you have fuel going to the carb, it would suggest that the fuel is not passing through it into the cylinder for the spark plug to ignite. Would suggest stripping and cleaning the carbs. Also check the rubber boots if they are CV carbs and check that the vaccum pipes are fitted correctly.
What are the best fluids
if you are talking about brake fluid??? dot 5??? but honda will tell you what to put in your bike,, only use what they say,,,
your life is in your hands with what brake fluid you put in
Hello. tryed to start my bike after a unexpected
You may have some fuel issues. The cold may have cause any "trash" in the fuel to clump together. Flush your fuel out of the tank and check / change fuel filter. Hope this helps, please let us know, thanks

I have a 93 honda cbr 900rr. the gas is mixing
Could be the carbs (difficult).
It could also be lack of spark (easy fix if you only have to replace spark plugs. Fix is more difficult if you have bad spark plug wires or a problem with the ignition system that makes the spark at the right time).
In any case, the unburned gas has to go somewhere so it runs down the cylinder wall and the piston rings will not seal well enough to keep it out.
Back fires and wont start,i over reved it whilst
You did not give many details about this bike, such as how many miles or kilometers are on it and how hard you have ridden it. Have you preformed all of the maintenance that the factory recommends at the proper time. There are many things that could cause your problem, such as out of time, a loose or worn value drive slipped, etc. If you will give me more details I can give further advise.
Rebuild the carb on a 98 honda cbr 900rr. Where
Dont rebuild unless absolutetly necessary or need to rejet. Try some Seafoam first, it might save you hundreds of dollars and a lot of frustration.
read directions on can or just try pouring 1/3 can into two gallons gas and really get on it ...it might clear up any hesitation or stalling if thats whats happening. I got mine at Autozone for $10.( And it fixed the problem after riding for about 15 miles.)
