1999 Honda GL 1500 SE Gold Wing Questions & Answers
98 goldwing 1500se transmission noise
On my GL1200ltd I had a lot of tranny noise. Out of desperation, I changed to Amsoil 10W40 motorcycle oil. I cured tranny noise, sticky clutch issues and even shifted better.
Screaming noise at high speeds
Sounds like wheel bearings. There just isn't a lot on that bike that increases with speed, it's either wheels or engine. If it's engine- it will make noise in neutral. If it's wheels, it will only make noise while actually moving.
Is the engine oil and transmission the same on
Yes the engine and transmission run in the same oil. Use any
oil with the JASO MA motorcycle certification. 10w-40 for cold climate,
20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Do not use any oil that says Energy
Conserving on the label. It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and
transmission gears. Synthetic oil will help your bike run cooler and
shift easier. You will need 4 quarts of oil , an oil filter, and a new
aluminum sealing washer for the drain plug.
