2001 Honda VT 750 C2 Shadow Questions & Answers
My 1998 Honda Shadow ACE 750 backfires alot when i let off the throttle. What causes this?
Sounds like your fuel air mixture is a little rich. Check your plugs, if they are black you are running rich which will cause some of the excess fuel to be burned off in your exhaust. Two common problems with a bikes fuel air mixture is bad plugs, if one does not fire consistently all the time it will leave excess fuel in the combustion chamber. Another would be a clogged air filter keeping the fuel air mixture unbalanced as well.Lastly if you are able to, you may adjust your air fuel screws on your carb. However most Honda's are stock with Keihin carburetors and these air fuel screws are plugged so you cannot make adjustments without drilling out the plugs.
Honda deale told me
Spark plugs are carbon fouled black usually caused by leaking valve seals, bad oil control rings. The fuel flow, the fuel pressure, the fuel itself, the fuel pump, the fuel filter needs to be inspected. Also the oil needs to be checked.---------
If one of the valve is out of adjustment, it needs to be realigned, as it can cause the leak and this may cause spark plug getting black.
---------
I agree that at present, motorcycle is running fine, but this spark plug getting foul black, is the indication to checked this above mentioned possibilities.---------
----------
Get the valves and fuel system inspected by the local dealer or at local garages. They can inspect the valve and fuel system and do required tune up and adjustments.---------
This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
My hyd clutch fades after
Hi, Try using a different hydraulic fluid one that is more heat resistant. You will have to flush the old stuff out and don't get air in the system. Hope that helps. The hose assembly won't help much.
New battery fitted started 4
It may need a regulator.
put a multi meter across the battery terminals
It should read 12v or a little more with the engine stopped.
When the engine is revved it should rise to around 14v, if it doesnt rise, it isnt charging

I need the friction plates
If the clutch is slipping you need to buy a new clutch pack, which will include clutch friction plates and thrust washers. As for specs if slipping and free play on handle is correct .Clutch is shot.I dont know the specs off hand. But if you are asking this question I would think you need new clutch.
On a 2004 Honda Shadow
Yes, Towards the back of the front seat and on the side are two big bolts.
I beleive they are allen head bolts. Remove the two bolts and the seat slides out.
If you have a rear seat, pull up on the front of the rear seat so the front will slide back.
Now you see electrical wires and a cdi sitting in a plastic holder. That plastic holder is the battery cover.
Don't unplugg anything, just pull the cdi out of the plastic holder so you can remove the cover.
There will be one screw holding that cover down. remove the screw and lift out the cover.
There is your battery for you to change out, charge, or check.
The sensor in the exhaust
This is the O2/oxygen/lambda sensor Below are the color code in the order that they are on the connector of the original sensor:
White - Power. Connects to Black/white on the bike's harness. This power should be switched by the ignition.
Green - Ground. Connects to green/black.
Black - O2. This is the sensor output. Connects to Black/red and eventually to the ECM
White - Heater. The heating element on the sensor. Connects to white and eventually to the ECM
Where is the battery
Under the seat. You either have to take off a side cover to remove the battery out the side of the bike, or take off the side covers and remove the seat to lift the battery up out of the frame.
The bike sits at idle
Chances are the valves need to be re-seated. This service is AKA "valve grinding". The head comes off then the valve retainers are removed then a grinding compound is smeared on the face of the valve seats and the valves get twisted left and right to remove carbon buildup and to give a fresh surface to the valve faces and valve seats.
