The Valkyrie has 6 carbs and it sounds like one of the carbs is not working properly. When you give it the gas it uses different jets to load the carbs. at cruising speed it may not be pushing enough fuel on all 6 to keep up or one is plugged. First try some Sea Foam or Tecron Fuel system cleaner through the fuel tank and see if that clears it up. If not I would suggest a carb cleaning to get it done.
Does the 2001 Valkyrie Interstate
Looking in the service manual it does NOT appear to have a low oil pressure shut down sensor. I has a low oil pressure sending unit that will turn on a light.
How to preform a compression test on a valkyie
Remove the spark plugs. Using a screw in compression tester, screw the tester into a plug hole and tighten it slightly. Open the throttle and crank the engine about six full revolutions. Record the reading and proceed to the next plug. Do the same on all the plugs, recording the readings and cylinder number each time. That is all there is to it. If you can only obtain a press in type compression tester it becomes a two man job as one person has to hold the tester while the other holds the throttle open and cranks the engine.
Bike set for 3 months
Carb Cleaner spray. I suggest you go to the auto parts store of motorcycle shop near you and speak with the counter guy or gal about this for a recommended product. Use according to the directions on the container.

1998 Valkyrie won't start.
Was your valves adjusted at the 12K? If they were it sounds like the tech didn't do the job correctly. If the valves are set too tight you could have bent a couple of valves due to lack of clearance. Also it could've taken that long for evrything to fully heat up, thus removing any needed clearance. Check you compression first. If you have more that 10% difference between the 2 cold cylinders and the hot ones, you've got problems ( probably what I described up top ).

Have you checked the main fuse on the starter solenoid? It is a flat fuse that when it gets old can crack or it just blows . There should be a spare fuse in the solenoid box cover. The flat fuse is only available from Honda dealers. I rewired all my Honda's to common push fuses.

I have 2001 honda
It indicates towards problem with the safety switches.either the connection is loose to the switch or the switch itself is shorting and needs to be replaced.-----------The neutral safety switch, the clutch switch and the starter switch .Any of this switch is causing the problem.-------
To confirm which out of this is causing problem.By pass the switch one by one with a jumper wire, then start the motorcycle and see. When the faulty switch out of this will be bypassed, the bike will start without any play, so you can get that particular switch replaced.--------
Sometimes the connections gets dirty / loose. In that case, cleaning the connections and reconnecting them properly will help.-----------
Thanks.Helpmech.
I have a 1987 Valkyrie.
Hondas have used a CV vacuum slide carb in their street bikes for years, and to correct for the lag they normally utilize an accellerator pump that shoots fuel directly into the intake when you twist the throttle. It's a simple diaphragm pump, and if it got dry during storage, they will fail from dry rot. I'd replace it given the age of the bike anyway and I'd bet it cures your accelleration issue. Also check all the hoses associated with vacuum connected to the carbs for leaks and dry rot as well.
I recently removed and remounted
Chances are you have mixed your connectors... plugging the wrong ones together by passing the switches.
If those two connectors are swapped.. well.. make sure the wire colours going in match the ones coming out on both sides of the connectors.
Easy to mix up
Best of luck!
How do I adjust the fuel mixture on a 1999 CL1500
Turn the fuel screws in until lightly seated. Back out 2 full turns on each carb. start bike and let it get to operating temp. turn screw out, or in to achieve highest idle for each carb. reset idle to about 1100-1300 rpms. Go back and forth between carbs and setting the idle. Rev bike a couple of good times and see that the idle drops normal with out stalling. Chaz Moto DC
