My Shadow does this as well, and I've read on some of the Shadow forums that other people have noticed this with their bikes too, so I don't think it's a "problem" so much as poor tank design.

Check for exhaust leaks that could let cold fresh air into the pipes,test plug wires for ohms resistance, maybe replace plugs.Could it be one of your coils has a crack that only shows itself when chilled?(try to spray silicone on the suspect coil when it is missfires, if this helps stop it fron cutting out replace the coil.(maybe even go back to your prefered jets then) If a relay is weak they can be temperature sensative as well.

First look in your Owners manual it should tells you the numbers, else, try 32 psi FR and RR, or 36 psi if carrying a load on RR.

check the starter relay first. just follow the positive battery cable to get to it. you can bridge it with a set of needle nose pliers to test it. if it starts up when you bridge it, then you now know the relay is bad. if it still doesn't do anything, check all the connections.

Your best bet for saving $$ is to hit a motorcycle salvage yard such as:

If you give them a buzz, they can tell you if they have one and the cost. They also ship.

Get yourself a freebie manual and see if that helps. I would check for a poor connection of the pipe some where or a minor fracture in the fuel line:

The knock is probably coming from the connecting rods because there is so little oil to keep them lubricated! "...smoked a little..." is most likely due to valve, lifter and tappet damage because of NO LUBRICATION!!!

From what you are saying you are most likely going to have rebuild the motor! Get the bike to a shop NOW!

If the backfiring is only on deceleration, the problem is most likely carburetors that are out of sync.

check your starter butten I had the same thing happn I cleaned the connection with elecyral spray

carb float had a hole in it and 'sank' allowing fuel to flow freely through the carb into the combustion chamber onto the piston down the walls into the sump.

This, my friend, is why there is a fuel valve on the tank

Of course there is a possibility your float didnt 'sink' ... but there is fuel in the sump. So, drain all the stuff - shoot a little oil into each spark plug hole and turn the engine over a couple times to get a good coat of oil on the walls.

the problem more than likely lies in your start button or the ignition switch. check the start button first. it may have corroded contacts.

Either the gear bearings are worn out or the gear is. BTW check oil level as well

Look to see if this line goes to a carburator bowl. If it does, you a most likely looking at a float sticking due to dirt or fuel going bad. The float shuts off fuel to the carburator, when the bowl is fuel.

check for water in gas

only way to be sure is to count the teeth. most chains you buy are longer than need and you cut off the extra links.

hi buddy your rear cylinder is seizing up take it off and take the piston out by using pliers just grap it and pull and twist it at the same time then when it pops out just take the 2 seals out using screw driver and clean them up then wipe the piston and the inside the pop the seals back in and dap some dot 4 brake fluid on the seals and on the piston and slide it back in and bleed the caliper done

Sounds like a grounding problem. I know not easy to fix. To start with, I suggest running another ground wire (just a jumper wire with alligator clips on each end) from the instruments to the frame and see if the problem goes away then if fixes make the repair perminent. Best wishes.
