I took out old battery
Okay...the battery posts themselves should be identified with a + and -
As for the cables....often the positive cable is red, and has a rubber cap on the cable that covers the positve cable/battery post connection once bolted up. The negative cable does not have this cap. You should note that the positive cable runs from the battery to the main fuse of the bike, which usually is near the battery.
I took out old battery,now
RED is positive and BLACK is negative if both cables are black then trace wires the gound or negative will go back to frame of bike somwhere. And the red or positive will go to starter soliniond and be inlined fused.

I have a 2004 vtx
Hi
It's going to be just a couple of wires that are off on the connectors for the turn signals. If they are on all the time something's in the wrong position. As for the speedometer check under the dash and make sure you got the connectors pushed in all the way.

How do you check the coolent on the vtx 1300?
It is rather easy to check coolant on the vtx all models 1-level the bike [block under kick stand wheel also blocked] 2-look under bike at the overflow bottle midwaynear the oil filter.3-there are marks on the bottle clearly showing high ,low, and middle.what you want is the middle line or level when the engine is cold.4-afiller tube is provided on the left side under the plastic side panel.do not overfill or you will have to do some siphoning to bring level back down. If you wish to check the coolant mix 50/50 then an antifreeze guage will have to be used

How do I change the battery on my VTX? I am going
Depending on your model of vtx1300 there are 2 or 3 bolts holding the seat on. On the S model remove the side covers and remove the 2 bolts(one on each side) and lift off the seat . On the C model there is a nut at the rear of the seat that also has to come off. Lift the back of the seat and pull it toward the rear of the bike. Remove the three bolts on the plastic cover and the two cable bolts. The battery will lift straight up out of the battery box. Be sure to charge your old battery with a 12 volt charger before storing. If installing a new battery be sure to use your charger to bring the new battery up to a full charge before using it.
Odometer has becme brown and the readings are
my 04 honda vtx 1300 and my 4 wheeler did the same but before i replaced them i did some experminting and found out what i could use to keep that from happing. i took a old caculater and put some window tint on it thats what helped my 4wheeler i really couldnt find much to put on my bike so i just took a old leather glove and used that to cover it.
Fan cuts in and out all the time
My 2003 1300 vtx s did this for a long time especially at slow speeds.Ireplaced the thermo switch but to no avail. Later I bobbed the bike {cut back fenders for a older look}and low and behold the fan hardly comes on any more at all.Ibeleive the big oversized front fender was the culprit because my 2004 c with small front fender has never had this problem.
I have a 2004 Honda
If the rubber mounting boot (turn signal stem) is sold separately from the turn signal , a new turn signal stem should fix the problem. If the turn signal stem is designed to be part of the assembly and does not separate , you may have to replace the whole turn signal assembly. The problem with Honda turn signal stems is the metal tab that bolts the turn signal assembly to the bike gets loose and the turn signal falls off. Your only other option would be to take the signal off and try to inject some epoxy or glue into the slot or figure out a way to fix the tab in place (so the signal doe not come off). Unfortunately , even if you replace the assembly it does not mean that some one brushing up against the turn signal (by accident) will not loosen up the new one, creating the problem all over again. You should be able to easily fix this your self with new parts and maybe save some money if you can solve the loose mount tab issue.
Backfires at decelaration, and popping at steady
Hi, the most common cause of this is an air leak into the exhaust system, check the header pipe gaskets and any other joins in the exhaust system.
Another cause can be damaged valves and seats usually caused by not cleaning the valley before removing spark plugs, small stones then fall into the combustion chamber causing the damage.
Hope this helps, cheers.
WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE
The power wire for the head light before the switch that moves it from high beam to low beam. It probably can be tapped in the head light bucket. You do not want to take power directly from the battery. You need to find a hot source after the voltage regulator or you will boil your capped battery dry or over charge your sealed battery.
I installed a set of used cobra pipes on my 2006
It seems the fuel has flooded through the carbs from sitting. it may need the carbs cleaned and new fuel in the tank, and a new air filter element, there is also a possibility fuel has made its way into the sump, so check the oil level, or change the oil if it is 2 years old.
This can all be caused by a leaking fuel tap, and the fuel getting old and leaving a residue in the tap and carbs
