1991 kawasaki ZZR 250 Questions & Answers
Overflow tank not storing coolant.
Don't jump the gun and replace the head gaskets like the guy recommended...you need to have a technician look at it...can be a minor issue or something totally different. I had the problem with my stratus and paid tons of money to do the heads...never solved the issue and heads were done right. Its was blockage with in the coolant system and was discovered til my water pump went out.
What is the oil capacity of 1991 zzr250 front forks
according to my handbook 350ml when empty 300ml at oil change. As a 2nd check i used a length of wire with masking tape then measure & mark the tape 135mm insert down into the fork. hope this helps it worked for me.
Hi, my zzr 250 hadn't been started for about 8
Could be one of two things
1. The carbs are gummed up. Modern fuel will break down after only a few months. The idle jets are quite small and will easily become blocked. Strip and clean the carbs.
2. The throttle cable is sticky. Less likely, but possible. Make sure it opens and snaps shut easily.
What do you mean when you say you tried more air?
I have a 91 kx250 it won't start I've changed
Hello. Get a can of starter fluid and a helper. Have the helper squirt some starter fluid into the air intake area while u start it. then use starter fluid to keep it running until it runs on its own. If this does not do it, you will probably have to rebuild the carburator. Joe
Zzr250 starter not engaging sometimes like flat
Yep it could be the solenoid, best way to check is use a multimeter and check if there is voltage on the bottom terminal of the solenoid. if not thats the problem. But if there is voltage to it then you got worn brushes which will mean starter has to come out and get an overhaul...hope this helps. Let me know how you get on.

I have a Kawasaki ZZR 250. Just bought it. Started
One or both of the floats are stuck open giving the carbs fuel constantly. The extra fuel runs into the intake, fills the cylinder, gets past the piston rings and then fills the gearbox and overflows onto the floor. Pull the carbs and clean them. Some trash, ( such as rust from the tank ), is not letting the float needle to seat. Be sure to sync and balance the carbs after re-installing. Also, turn off the gas at the tank when you are not riding. If you already are doing this, the petcock must not be shutting off properly and needs to be replaced. Please rate my answer. Thanks.
My bike can't recharge the batteries, my team said it was actvfir
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, have the battery externally charged and load tested. This is to eliminate the off-chance of a battery issue.
Offhand, a couple of possibilities on the battery not charging:
- rectifier / regulator combo (most likely);
- loose, corroded, burned terminals / connectors from the stator to the rectifier/regulator (likely);
- faulty stator / coils (least likely).
On the speedometer not reading:
- faulty speedometer (most likely);
- faulty small gear on front wheel hub (likely).
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
Timeing for a zzr 250
If it's ignition-timing it's designed not to be altered or set, why do you need to set it?
If it's cam-timing i'll put a detailed explanation, let me know m8.
Help with service
Your bike is a four stroke. The gear box and engine are one unit. Standard 10w40 oil goes into the gearbox. The gear box oil IS the engine oil.
You need to buy the oil anyway, so why not go to the Kawasaki dealer and, after buying the oil, ask them show you how to check the oil level. Ask them to tell you what maintenance you should do as the owner. Don't be shy. Ask them "what do you mean by that".."where is that part on my bike?"... How often?... and so forth. They will be glad to give you a first hand education on standard maintenance needs.
Please rate this solution. Thanks!
