How to tell if neck bearing on suzuki gsxr 750 slingshot needs replacement and or adjustment

I would start at the top of the front assembly and work down. The easiest way to check for a loose or damaged head stock bearing is to put the bike up on the centre stand, have someone push down on the rear taking all weight off the front tire, and push the tire assembly in and out. There should be absolutely no play in the wheel assembly or headstock. The drop may have backed the head stock nut off just enough to loosen the assembly. I would also check to make sure there isn't a slight bend in the front rim.Check the brake caliper for clearance and don't rule out the tire it might have damage you can't see.You may have even bent the front axle slightly. This might explain why you only feel it slowing down or turning.Good luck

Hard tic in the top

I had this same bike and had the same noise, it turned out to be the timing chain automatic tensioner. I pulled it out several times and checked it it seemed to work ok, but finally after running the valve clearances twice i replaced it and walla the noise was fixed.

2006 gsxr 750 change front tire?

Regular tire changing irons, available at an auto parts store are required to do the job correctly and result in a safe tire mounting. It is probably best to take it to a tire store, especially if your cruising for your rides.

Whats better overall pod filters or stock airbox

this is a topic of much debate. I have never found a great deal of advantage in performance on dynos when fitting a pod style filter as apposed to the stock panel filters. If you are after more induction noise ("****") then a pod filter is the go. If you are not so worried about induction noise, stick with the panel filter as they usually have a pretty larger surface area and are easier to clean and find replacements for.

Changed the pipe to a 4 to 1 and added pod filters

you dont need more gas through the valve. unless all out racing, that shouldn't be a problem. you definately need rejetting. the proper jet size can only be determined by trial and era. you need a dyno to tune properly. but of the head I would say start with 10 sizes over what you had. say if they were #120's, go with #130's. this should get you in the right direction.

Changed the air box for pod filters and now the

You need to re-jet your carburetors to compensate for the increased air flow. The bike is starving for fuel because the carburetors are jetted for the air box. Typically you would need to change the pilot jet and adjust the a/f mixture on the carbs. You didn't specify if your carbs were stock or modified so I am including a link for you that can guide you through the process. In the meantime, if your bike is a daily rider, put the stock air boxback on until you can re-jet the carburetor. Here is the link: http://www.dynoman.net/carb/pdf/mikRS-access.pdf

When the engine gets hot it won't idle.

check the vaccum lines that run from the carb to the bottom of the gas tank for leaks or just replace them. Is it a new filter, if it is a old one, it might just be clogged up? If that doesn't work, I would guess the petcock valve on the bottom of the gas tank might be messed up.

Has been sitting up for

Check spark (Clean/replace) plugs look for good spark; check battery (bad terminals can interfere with a good ground); check air filters (not clogged that will affect fuel/air mix), check new gas (old gas varnishes in as little as 3-4 months); check carbs( drain floats and look for crud)....Gotta be one of these...process of elimination.
