I've had the same problem, especially because I'm just now getting my '90 VX repaired after sitting in the garage for over 15 years. Assuming you know the key for the gas lock is known to be the correct lock, I'd say you are correct that the locking mechanism needs to be lubricated.... and even cleaned. If you're not able to get the cap hinged open to lubricate the locking wings from the bottom of the cap it may be somewhat difficult. I had to push down somewhat on the cap and slowly keep turning the key back and forth trying to free up the frozen wings. Be very careful not to break the key when doing this, and you might even want to make sure the key has a duplicate before you start. Pushing down on the gas cap while doing this seemed to help alliviate the pressure on the wings and allowed a little bit more movement on the key each time. If you are able to get the cap open after that you definitely need to lubricate or consider taking it apart and cleaning and lubricating the mechanism for more free movement. Good Luck!

I would expect on an engine like that the engine cut out is set for around 6000 rpm so that you cannot cause any accidental damage by over revving it. Why do you want to rev it past 6000 rpm???

Does it smoke at all? It's possible that you have either added to much oil, or you have worn pistol rings and the oil is slipping past the pistons and being forced into your breather.

Sounds like the carbs are gummed up,and the floats are stuck. The carbs will have to come off,be thoroughly cleaned,and the float levels reset,and synchronized.

is the clutch slipping or just needs adj? there is a adj screw on the clutch perch and one near the motor

Remove the lense and fit a new lamp.

first u might want to check the ground wire. make sure it is a good connecion. 2nd. make sure BOTH front and rear bulbs are ok. I'll usual;ly take out the other side i know is good, and put them in the bad side just to make sure. 3rd, with a probe, make sure u are getting power to the bulb socket. if all these are ok, u may just need a new relay fuse/switch.

You will need a fuel pressure gauge and fittings so you can put the gauge inline, when you turn on the ignition the pressure will pump up. More importantly is the volume of fuel supplied, if supply is blocked you will still get good pressure but starve for fuel. You will need to find out from the workshop manual exactly what you should be getting from the pump. When doing these test be careful because some people have got burned by silly mistakes like smoking and sparks etc.

If you got the bolt out and it wont come apart give it a hard slide downword a few good times and it should come off.

In any case, you need to take the gearbox apart. After that you renew all bearing anyway and check the other components as well.

You need to have the factory repair manual, and also a flywheel puller specific to the model you have. It involves valve timing which is very critical that it is correct, so the manual is a must.

Have you checked the fuse located at the starter solenoide, follow the battery poss lead untill it connects with the solenoide, most solenoides have built in a 30amp fuse under a red plastic cap, check this out first, hope this helps, paul
