2000 Suzuki VS 1400 Intruder - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Where is fuel filter vs 1400 Intruder
FIRST DO NOT SMOKE while working with gasoline I can not express this enough! There are two filters on my 2000 VS 1400 GLP there both located in the inlet on the carb sink needle. You'll need a repair manual they can be found on ebay about $20 + shipping. The seat has to be removed to get to the gas tank bolts (10mm socket) rear seat first then the front then the gas tank bolts. Lift the gas tank you will see the two fuel line's and the petcock turn the petcock flat screw like till its horizontal then remove the fuel lines at the gas tank they can be left in place but do drain them. Air box to carburetor boot's are next. The side cover's need to be removed too. You'l have to remove the carbs one at a time. Before you do this count the number of threads left on the throttle cable where it connects to the throttle. This is critical for carburetor synchronization. Remove the choke cables. Front choke cable is held in place by a phillips head screw remove it the choke assembly should lift off the plunger that feeds extra fuel in the intake stream. The rear threads into the body this is plastic be careful they damage easly. Remove the float bowel drain screw prepare for fuel draining there should be a drain tube on the bottom of the float bowel place the tube into a used soda bottle if it's clean you could drain whats in the bottle into the gas tank. Counter clock wise turn the drain screw out but do not remove it when you see gas in the soda bottle & it stops move on. Once there drain'd turn over the carb remove the 4 phillips head screws you will see the floats they will have to be removed by removing the pin going thew the float towers be very carefull these carb bodys are made from pot metal very brittle & break easily. Once there out of the way you will see the sink needle assembly held in place by another phillips screw remove it the sink needle needs to removed can be done with needle nose pliers then the filter can be seen remove it very carefully either replace or spray it carb cleaner any auto part's store sell it. in the opposite direction of flow that should clean it. Reverse assembly. I hope this helps you fix your own bike a few more suggestion use a big old bathroom towel to work on your carb, parts don't roll away into never never land. Take your time and pictures for reference's if needed.
My 2000 Suzuki intruder vs 1400 lost power all of
Hi, the main fuse is on the starter solenoid I believe. If this is OK I would look to the battery. I have had my SV get me to work and after work tries to start then nothing shot battery every time. Try removing the battery please undo negative lead first. Connect battery to a dedicated bike charger (output 1 amp max) see if it will charge. A dead or faulty battery will normally show full charge very quickly do not be fooled by this the battery is lying. When you fit a battery please connect positive lead first. Please never use car or boost chargers and never jump start your bike from another vehicle.
Hope this helps.
1997 1400 Intruder with no spark. Replaced ignition module and pickups still no spark
This is old school, you need to check and make certain your magneto armature is still magnetized. See if a Steele object will stick to it. If not it wont ever generate enough magnetism to cause a spark. You can re-magnetize it by applying DC 12 volt current thru the field sides for about 60 seconds. Once engine is running the rotation of the armature will fully re-magnetize its self. Since your system combines charging, spark timing and ignition pulse to the coils it has a lot of demand on it. Setting for a long time will cause this condition or something like hooking the battery up backwards for a split second can de-magnetize it. 70 years ago this was a common problem with cars, trucks, boats and motor cycles. Headlight relacment
It should be very easy. Unless there has been a fairing added to the motorcycle, that impairs your ability to get at the headlight. There should be two to three phillips or torx head screws around the headlight trim ring. Remove those screws, and the trim ring. Next the headlight housing will be free to come forward. Unplug large connector at the back of the headlight housing. Remove old H4/9003 bulb by turning the retaining ring counterclockwise. Install new bulb, and reverse the order of removal. I'd say either the timing is off or one of the exhaust valves might be leaking
Describe the smell in terms of gas, new oil, burnt oil, burnt oil with some gas, you get the idea.
Im not sure where the
On older 1400's the fuse box is behind the riders left side cover.Yours is probably same place.
Remove the left side cover, look near the middle and you will see a black box mounted sideways. . The end of the box that is facing forward says FUSE, I believe there is one screw hold it on.
Clutch will not bleed
I had the same problem...FIX...with these bike you need to bleed the master cylender first. The way to do this is to fill the resevior and but the cap back on,pump the handle several times while holding the handle in break open the hose bolt on the resevior. MAKE SURE TO HOLD A RAG UNDER THE BOLT BECAUSE DOT4 WILL EAT YOUR PAINT. Do this a couple times until you have nothing but fluid comming out. You should now have a good handle as long as there is no air in the rest of the system.
