Having problems starting on cold days
Had the same problem - stock battery simply doesn't have enough cranking power. I've replaced with Shorai Lithium/Iron Phosphate battery and resolved the problem (but a bit pricey - I paid over $140 for battery)
How much oil goes in a 1998 VL 1500? Never done
Drain your oil. Get several quarts of oil that Suzuki recommends for your VL 1500. Fill it until your dip stick indicates the proper level.
Dont get cheap on this ... motorcycles take q beating and need high quality lubricants.
Sometimes starter won't engage
check all the wires-"clean and tight" it may be a loose wire or bad conection. if thats good it may be the starter or starter solenoid telling you its bad, also check the wires in the starter button on the hanldle bar or the ignition switch
Running lights loose
you may have to remove the light out of the case and tighten the holding nut inside.
I have a 2002 intruder
As long as the side walls are not cracked, the tire treads are not cupped, and the tires are rolling normally you should be able to use the tires safely until you wear them down to the manufacturers wear marks molded between the treads.
Brake light does not work
remove the bulbs step on the brake and ck for power at the terminals inside the socket if no power back track the wires and look for a break in the wires.use a didgital volt meter and ck for continuity through the switches( unplug the switch and put the probes to both terminals one on each the meter should beep ---switch good.........
no beep switch bad) also ck the bk. light relay ,not sure where it is at....more extensive problem ??? the dealer sells service the manual with all the wireing diadrams and locations of the components all u need to fix any thing on u bike .....my 82 honda saber had lots of electrical prob's & lighting prob,s i bought the service manual and fixed every thing... saved me hundreds o $$$$$$$$$$$$

Check for a bad ground. A bad ground will wreak havoc on your charging system and battery. If you find the source of bad ground, you might as well check it with the components that are on there now. The regulator is the component that would most likely have gone bad since it the rectifier were bad, you wouldn't get any DC voltage from the alternator.
Haedlight is not working on
Take off the headlight and put power directly to the bulb ( a piece of wire and your car battery will work). If the bulb and fuses are good then try cleaning the starter button. It is a two position switch that both turns the head light off and engages the starter solenoid. If the starter button is defective you will have to replace the right switch assembly to fix the problem.
My battery is good and
You may have a separate headlight fuse that is blown. You could have a dirty or broken contact base on your ignition switch that is not supplying power to that part of the bike. Or you could have a dirty or broken starter button . The starter button when pushed in half way, turns off the headlight. when it is pushed in all the way it engages the solenoid. If it the button try cleaning it. If that does not work you will have to replace the switch assembly.
How do i adjust the
The settings are not that critical for theair screw. Start with it between 1.5 and
2 turns out. With the engine warmed uptry turning it in or out until
you get the fastest or smoothest idle.
The factory setting is only a startingplace, the adjustment still needs to
be made to suit the elevation of thearea you live in.
The idle can also be adjusted for yourown riding tastes, around 1200 rpm should do
