I have a 2003 Suzuki Volusia VL800, when I'm at idle it sounds like lm running on one cylinder until I give it more gas and at times it will not stay running right! Why?

Have you done the basics ... service the engine; spark plugs, check timing, oil and filter change etc.

Wont start sounds like it wents to but wont

Depending on how the fuel is delivered will make a difference in how to go about this. If it is a carburetor type engine the fuel might have sat too long in carb and "gummed up" the fuel bowl. If it is fuel injected it could be a bad fuel pump. Either way depending on your level of mechanical ability using "starting fluid" sprayed into the airfilter will help determine if this is a fuel problem or an ignition problem. If you can locate the air filter and feel confident enough to do this...pull the needed panels to exspose the air filter air inlet. Use a small amount of starting fluid sprayed directly into the air inlet of filter housing as you crank engine over....avoid "loading up" the filter meaning do not over saturate filter just a couple quick bursts of spray should be all that is needed. The danger here is a backfire through the intake causing the excess fluid to combust and possibly cause fire damage to you or your motorcycle...so be cautious and use just a couple quick bursts as the engine turns over. If it starts and runs briefly until fluid is gone you now know you have a fuel issue.....if it still spitters and carries on but does not run you could have faulty spark plugs. Now is a point that you should decide if you can continue further or take it to a dealership to have a technician perform more tests.
