My 1971 triumph Bonneville t-120

You need to check which of the 2 things that can cause that: missing fuel or missing spark is the one in your bike.
For that try to start the bike several times then remove the spark plugs. Now look at them - if they are black or dirty then replace them. Try again and if now they are really moist then you have a missing spark and you will need to diagnose the ignition system: start with the battery (make sure is full) then the key contact (see is it powers the coil when the key is turned) then the high tension leads and finally check the points.
If the sparkplugs are dry or barely damp then check the fuel filter and clean the carburetors thoroughly.

Myb1971 Bonnevile won's start. How

Hello, your Triumph needs to have good spark and clean spark plugs, the battery fully charged.
The carbs need to be adjusted properly. This will make kick starting much easier & the bike will also run better. Choke it when it is cold, after that the choke should not be needed. Here is video showing how easy they will start --- on the first kick. I hope this helps.

Where can i find a free pdf of an owners manual

It's not free, but I've had good success on www.tradebit.com. They have a large library, and may have your manual. The most I've ever paid for a download is $20, most of them have been between 5 and 10 dollars. Good luck!

I have a 67 triumph

just because you put your hand on the wire doesn't mean its not getting spark, pull the plug wire off the plug,, insert a screw driver in the end of the plug wire (you'll need help with this,,) have a friend hold the screwdriver close to a bolt on the motor,, crank it over and see if you see spark , It should arc from the screwdriver to the bolt, ( it has to be very close to the bolt but not touching, if you see spark,, pull the plug,, attach the wire back on the sparkplug,, and repeat the same thing, Only place the tab of the plug next to the bolt,, spark = you have spark,, if not ,, replace the plug

I have a 1971 Boniville

The motor pings because the air/fuel mixture detonates. This is usually caused by the incorrect type of sparkplug (too hot) and/or carbon deposits in the chamber. This is enhanced by a leaner than normal mixture so check the carburetors first.
Install the correct type http://www.bikebandit.com/ngk-v-power-spark-plug?mg=766&t=1
If you get the same behaviour then it's the deposits - the pistons and the heads will have to be removed and thoroughly cleaned.

How to identify motor size

http://motorbike-search-engine.co.uk/classic_bikes/triumph-classic-motorcycles.php This link should help. I had a 550 way back when. There was also a Bonneville model that was 660. Both are side by side twin cylinders. The bike was not hard to work on but it rattled and required chain adjustments and frequent maintenance on the crappy electrical (Lucas) system.

I need advice on adjusting

Hi, there are four adjustments that can be made to the concentric carburetor. The adjustments should be made in the following sequence with the engine at operating temperature. The bike should be in operating setup (i.e., Exhaust system installed, air cleaners installed, etc.).
  • Adjust the Main Jet (Throttle at three-quarters to full open).
  • Adjust the Pilot Jet. (Throttle up to one-eighth open)
  • Adjust Throttle Cutaway. (Throttle one-eighth to one quarter open)
  • Adjust Throttle Needle. (Throttle one-quarter to three-quarters open)
  • Readjust the Pilot jet.

I have trouble with pulling

If you release everythng and spend some time with 20-50 oil filling the cable up with it. I suspect a strand of the bowden cable may have snapped inside the oter and oiling it should help to ease the problem.
A new cable should fix it permanantly.

What is the best way

Gaiters, I can assume you are referring to the rubber telescopic spring covers on each fork. There is only one way to change these I'm afraid and that means the forks have to come off the bike and come apart on the bench.Triumph never did anything easy! Take the oppurtunity to clean the forks, replace the oil seals and change the fork oil and inspect all the bits.(might as well) When installing the new gaiters the info I have says to use a light oil to help slip them into place by hand with an even pressure. No screwdrivers or pliers. Hope this has helped, nice to chat with another British fan, good luck with the job.Cheers

I've got a 1972 Bonneville T120V with a problem.

Oh, something is telling me to stay away from this one. It has been a long time since I messed with a vertical twin triumph.

The first thing to do is to check the points and timing. Check and reset the points first. Usually if no one has moved the plate, the timing comes right back into specs with the points gapped correctly. But, just to be on the safe side, check the timing once you get the points right.

Next is the carbs. Hopefully you aren't still running the original Amal carbs. The Bonneville had twin carbs and they need to be balanced pretty well. You need a carb syncronizing tool to do this with. It works off either manifold vacuum or air velocity through the venturi. You can play with the idle mixture screws and idle speed screws and maybe get it close. But, unless you are somewhat familiar with any of this advice, I'd look for someone with some experience to help you with the job. If you get the timing too far off or the carbs too lean, the Bonnevilles were terrible about burning pistons. We don't want that do we now. Good Luck, Steve

Bike wont start , shorted out

they two comments above me are right, you have two sets of fuses on your bike. one set is either near your handle bars or under your seat. the other set is basicaly relays under the back left of your bike, there you will find one regular fuse next to the relays which is for your ignition and starter. I would check that fuse almost certain it poped.
