What type of oil do i use in container under seat
Unless the manufacturer says different, you
will use a detergent oil in all gasoline engines. If yours is a 2 cycle engine, of course they burn a mix of oil and gas. Do you not have a owners manual with your motorcycle? You don't mention the model nor year. Your best bet is to contact your Yamaha dealer since I don't know what area you live in (oil recommendations are contingent on temperature)Thanks for your interest in FixYa.com
Does a DT250A trail bike
usually the neutral switch is on left side of engine on top of transmission...Yamaha often uses sky blue for the wire color to neutral switch

My old 73 175 had points, I don't know if yours does. There is also the stator/ magneto. Try disconnecting the kill switch or unplug the key cylinder. There is a more detailed check in the manual. I can't find my old 175 manual but ttr125 says 1) check plug for spark- clean or replace. 2) check entire ignition system for connection. 3) check ignition stop switch. 4) check coil. a- primary coil, b- secondary coil. 5)check cdi coil. a-pickup coil. b- charging coil. Since you have replaced the coil I will only give specs for the cdi check. The picture shows a plug under the tank disconnected. It has four wires brn grn red and wht. To check pick up coil resistance set ohm meter to x 100. attach the plus lead to red and neg. lead to white. It seems to have a short wire in each jaw of the alligator clips of ohmmeter that is pushed into the disconnected plug that contacts appropriate wire color. Reading should be 248 to 372 ohm at 20 degrees C (68 degrees F). Charge coil test places the plus lead of ohmmeter to the brown wire and neg. lead to the green wire of the open plug. Meter at x 100. Reading should be 688 to 1032 ohm at 20degrees C. Of course while doing step 2 check for good grounds and tight connection at plug cap and use a new plug. Good luck.
I have a 74 DT360
Have the Carburetors been balanced? Is the idle speed at 1000 RPM hot? These are the TWO most common reasons for a stall like this. Please let me know.
What is the engine oil
The gearbox takes motorcycle gearbox oil 20w40, this can be the same as 4 stroke motorcycle oil, the capacity will be marked on the casing next to the filler 1.5l or similar. Dont use car oil or the clutch may slip.
The oil injection is separate and different , use 2 stroke engine oil. buy from a bike shop or some auto shops.
I had the 1977 model from new, one of the best trail bikes I have owned.
Hi I have a 1979
I am not 100 percent sure but it think the red dot is off. whith the choke look to see if it a plunger that you pull up to turn on and down is off. If it has a lever that pulls the plunger then you push down the lever to turn on and pull up to turn off. hope that i could be helpfull
The bike is a 250
If it's a butterfly style choke with a plate on the back of the carb, remove the boot that goes to the air cleaner and you'll be able to see the choke plate. If you can't get your head in there to see, stick a finger in there and operate the lever. When it's blocking the throat, it's on.
If the lever is in the front of the carb, it's not really a choke. It's an enrichening valve, that controls a brass valve that opens a port to allow extra fuel into the carb. Whatever direction of the lever pulls it up, that's on. Good luck, cool old enduro!
I have a 1997 Yamaha

Hi, that will be 6volt, a battery has 2volt per cell, a 12 volt battery will have 6 cells, and a 6vols battery 3, check how many caps your battery has, some of the early dt125 had a 12 volt on the elecctric start, yours should be a yuasa battery 6n4b2a3 check this link, modelshttp://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-dt250a-1974_model8480/partslist/
What is the float height
hi, looking in my manual for that year of bike, there is no mention of the float level, however normaly the float height of a constant depresion carburettor such as this is 27mm, this can be checked by holding the carburetor vertical with the air filter side facing up then slowly invert it until the float is just resting on the needle and not compressing,it.measure the distance between the gasket face of the carburettor and the bottom of the float. the fuel level can also be checked by using a lengthh of clear fuel pipe fitted to the drain at the bottom of the float chamber, undoing the drrain screw with the fuel pipe turned upwards toward the slide the fuel will climb up the pipe and show the present level,
