Sticking Rear Brake
Hi Alanmarshall,
I guess the rear brakes system of your bike must be mechanical.
Remove the rear adjusting nut on the brake rod and thn try it , the wheel should rotate freely.
If no, thn theres a problem in the drum and the linnings.. you will hve to remove the back wheel and examine.
If after removing the adjusting nut at the rear rod it moves freely thn theres a problem frm the rod to the brake pedal.
Or it may have been tht the adjustment was too tight without a free play .
Hope this helps!

How do you ajust points on 500xs yamaha
open the access cover to the points and look for the high position on the center shaft. You have to turn the engine slowly until this high lobe on the shaft rides at its center on the breaker points wear block. Once there (old trick) use a cover off of a book of paper matches, loosen the breaker point mount screw and use a small flat blade screwdriver (you will see a slot) adjust the points open, insert the piece of matchbook cover in between the contacts and use the screw driver to close the points just until there is a slight drag on the matchbook cover. Tighten down the breaker points screws and you are set. If the contact faces of the points are burned away, they need to be replaced. I use to mud bog with a Y360DT, great bikes

Carb removal is pretty straight forward. Everything attached to the engine including the the exhaust system, kick starter, gear selector, chain and sprocket needs to be removed and placed in an orderly fashion to aid in reinstallation. I'll be honest, you should pick a repair manual to help guide you thru this procedure. You'll be glad you did. Ebay and other sites should have a manual listed for your bike.
I got axs500 1976
yes i think so..these bikes only had a short model run..the engines had a few problems!!
